An idea about weather system

Live real weather for many of us would mean we would pretty much always drive tracks in the dark and cooler conditions being on the other side of the world to the current tracks.

But at least if Bathurst ever gets included it would be a payback for the rest of you who wouod be stuck racing at nite

 

I wouldn't say to permanently tie weather and time. If there were to be a race set up, you could set it to the correct time of day, with weather tracking. Or just something along those lines. But this is all just my silly speculation!

 

Hehe, it would be nice but maybe a little too much. Weather that we can setup ourselves isnt too bad though since we can set the conditions that are at the track at that time.

But it would be amazing with rain, and on tracks like Nurburg to have wet areas where its more slippery and that you have to learn those areas to compete well.

 

There's numerous threads on dynamic weather and ideas.
Downloading(real time) weather from weather servers(eg. vatsim) was top of the list.

Different parts of the track drying faster than others; wind, sunshine, shadows etc being variables.

 

@ Silverstone it's not working. the sun is in the wrong place(shining right in your eyes from two different directions).

But... we don't know if it's a bug or something more.

 

Re silverstone its been confirmed as a bug but in reality the main bug is that you can actually see the sun there at all. its normally either in cloud or fog so for all we know the sun could be doing strange things like that on the real track.

Definatly changeable weather and track conditions is the way to go for a true sim. Tying it in to real live weather or even last 24hrs tied to ingame time could work better. Maybe historic weather too but for long tracks localised showers and such are very important to simulate some tracks. Spa Nords and Bathurst are famous for these types of changing conditions.

Bathurst probably more then most as the top of the mountain is generally quite different to what you get on the pit straight down the bottom. The one thing with rain is that in modern racing they dont race in heavy rain any more like they did in the old days.

To be a true sim in many modern day race classes when it starts to rain hard you can have fun following the safety car around if you want to be very hardcore about simulating reality.

Weather even without rai is quite a critical part though with changing track temps being one of the most important aspects of car setup. Changing temps will make online racing much more dynamic compared to the more typical ideal temps people are driving with atm but for hotlapping fixed conditions are still best for a fair comparison against others.
