Generic We need Hot Hatches

Totally agree, there isn't much choice at the lower end of the power scale outwith Alfa and Fiat.

Would love to see Escort RS Turbo, Astra GTE, Renault 5 Turbo, Escort Cosworth, Peugeot 205 GTI, Renault Clio Williams

 

There is only one hot hatch, the Golf GTI. I love my Mk7 with performance pack!

 

Absolutely false!!! VW cheat to make people thinking that Golf is the only one, look at top gear, they make 135i goes nowhere to be first =p

I still maintain that as an all round car it's a great choice. Not many cars work that well for everything. Many cars do one or two things better, but as an all round package it's almost unbeatable.

I admit that Golf GTI is a grea choice, but, not my taste, 4 pot turbo... i prefer inline 6 cylinder engines and rear wheel drive!

 

Then it's not really a hot hatch any more...

Golf GTI has not really been a hot hatch since the Mk1. Since then its been a luke warm hatch.

Renault Sport was untouchable for years, now it's a fight between Ford/Renault for the 'Hottest' of hatches.

The VW's are good cars. But they don't have the essence of hot hatch that comes from the Mk 1 gti and 205 gti way back in the 80's.

 

It's a very competitive hot hatch... except when it comes to price. Which kinda puts it in its own market.

 

RS3, focus RS, Mazda MPS...

 

I know I've said my thoughts on the many wishlist threads we have, it seems they're not closing anytime soon.

So I may as well ask, what is the general consensus on the original Mk1 Focus? For Assetto Corsa that is, would it be a popular edition or are people not fussed?
I know its not all that hot by todays standards, but it still looks great and is quite iconic in my view.

 

The Rs? Actually more capable than you would think. Fairly good power, its older so lighter. GREAT chassis and a Torsen diff as standard. Very spikey though, lots of complaints of them becoming unsettled over bumps. I would love one in AC

 

No, but I have tried the Clio RS or wherever it's called. And while it's no doubt a better track car it fell way short as a complete package.

I won't get into an argument about which is better... because at the end of the day it's all subjective. They all have their differences and we will all choose the one that fits in best with our wants and needs. They are all very capable cars. I like mine to have that raw over engine feel, over the mature grown up feel of the Golf.

 

Clearly i think that GTI is well for everything, but not hardcore for something (like its sister clubsport)

After all, if you look well, you have : a golf (wich is a spacious hatchback, with a well made interior)
a 4 pot 2.0 turbo engine wich works well
a good chassis
So yeah it's a good overall choice (as Atle says) but miss a bit of spicy thing, (like lots of cars now) i'm sure that 308 gti 270 is not far from it.

I would never contemplate taking a Clio for a 3000km, three-child-and-wife family vacation to the ring, but my golf is doing just that this summer. Rented a flat in Adenau for a week in July.

When at the Ring you will find out the following.

It's usually a Porsche. If it's not a Porsche its a BMW. If it's not a BMW, it's a Renault Megane.
