Are the Special events even possible?

I've been trying the special events
Don't care about drift or time attack but in hot lap I can't get within four seconds of bronze. Changing the cars setups seems to make little to no difference.
Has anyone else experienced this or am I just a bad driver

 

They are extremely difficult, especially with a pad.

I managed to get silver (with a pad) on the BMW 1M S3 event on Vallalunga, after 20 or so laps, and silver on the M3 Drift car at Vallalunga club, haven't really spent much time in the others, but you need to put in a serious amount of time and effort to even get bronze.

Time attack ones are really tough, I can't even get 5000 pts on the Alfa one at Vallalunga, bronze is 6000 pts.

At the moment, I am concentrating on one track, I would have liked to be able to filter the events by track or event type.

 

It would be good if you could name those that give you problems. Although I'm not really into career/events myself and done only couple of them since I play AC, there are lots of people doing them and they might help. There's also a thread in PC bug section with list of broken special events so folks doing those can share their experience. It will also allow devs track down which events are unbalanced on consoles and if they are already fixed in the PC version of AC (since PC version is ahead of the consoles).

There are differences between consoles "easy" level of AI compared to the PC one, consoles "easy" AI is faster than the PC's. At least that's how it looks from comparisons done in another thread in the career mode. But there's another thread about AI level and you seem to be more focused on hot laps.

About time attack events, I believe they didn't change the way it works on PC and there's a very easy way to get gold. First drive as slow as the timer allows you, next lap slightly faster, next one again slightly faster, etc. If you will start driving as hot as you can you will quickly face the wall - you can't beat your PB and you will run out of time. By starting slowly you have a lot of time left so you can slowly get better lap times and won't run out of time.

 

So the score is based on your personal time, not a set time?, is that the way time attack is supposed to work?

 

Yeah I must admit that I was a bit confused about the Time Attack mode when I tried it at Brands Hatch last night and wasn;t sure what the points were accumulating for. It was a lot of fun but I wasn't really sure what I was meant to be doing apart from beating my time. It would be handy if there was something posted somewhere outlining stuff like that.

 

I had a first crack at a hot lap around Monza yesterday, just managed a bronze, but silver and gold will take some doing. Refreshingly challenging in my book.

 

Just drive to the first checkpoint and don't cross the line, just stop and wait couple seconds (there should be plenty of time on the clock). Cross the line at some point and drive to the next checkpoint and repeat. You will have less time with each lap tho so you have to constantly get faster. And that's what this is all about, I just told you how to quickly and effortless get the achievements. In ideal world it should work like that, you go on a safe first lap without any stopping to add some time for the next lap, you just give it all on the first lap. So you go out on the first lap going with slow-ish pace and with each lap as you get more confidence in the car and track, knowing better braking points, perfect line etc. you drive faster and faster on each lap.

If you just want the achievements do it how I told you first, if you want to get some fun out of it do it the other way - treat it like you are on a trackday for the first time and drive faster with each lap, after driving some slower laps at the beginning, exactly like you would be doing in real life.

 

I have 77 of them. So yeah, they are possible (by the way, 77 because of gold, silver and bronce is counted)

 

On console with a pad?

 

V8, how could you! Just drive nice and slow, pick up speed slowly over several laps and you will pass. It would have been so much better if it were a consistency challenge, but hey ho!

 

Good post an question OP, oh dear unfortunately this seems to be another bug or game balancing issue on the console version. As you'll see from the PC & Xbox One screenshots below the times vary, and are much much lower/harder, for some events on console. I've just picked out these 3 as examples from the first page. I've used the car on screen on the Xbox One version as the setup page does not show both car and times.

Kunos developers please note I love AC and don't like to keep pointing out these bugs and am only doing so to help you improve the game. If anyone else want to do more comparison feel free.

That's not a bug MBK, console users are just getting the benefit of upgraded times. I'm sure the PC version will have the same times when they get around to it.

 

I'm unsure if you you are being helpful with your comment or maybe having some fun - if you know this for certain then let us know. A look at the latest RSR Live timing leaderboards shows that the top PC times are around the PC gold medal requirements. There are no PC lap times in the M3 drift or F40 S3 at those 'new' console requirement times. I'm staying with bug until someone can confirm otherwise.

I'm only saying a bug causes issues, a lap time challenge being different is not a bug but a different time. As for time challenges being updated on the PC, yes I expect them to at some point, as some of the challenges on the PC are impossible.

 

Ok thanks, another game balancing issue then. Looks like they accidentally made some of the Xbox challenges another level of impossible.

 

It might be similar to the difference in speed/control aides you get using a keyboard & mouse or a gamepad compared to wheel? Also have you tried turning all those aides off, and it would be good to know if some are hardwired ones, or if there are some hidden aides that are untouchable.

 

I'm not sure if they made them "another level of impossible" or just more challenging, because like I said I did just a few of them. But I remember doing the F40 challenge from your pic and that I beat it either on first or second lap, so it was far from challenging really. Was couple months ago though.

Also I see that in both of your pics track grip is @ 100%, which I never saw on PC trying some of the events. I mean just this year as I don't even remember how it was earlier. So if the grip on PC will be around the usual 95%-96% then doing the same lap time as with 100% will be most likely "another level of impossible".

And here's the important question that I'd like to get the answer to. Do you have the grip settings on consoles? Although you can't change grip in career or special events on PC, you can set the grip in all other modes.

Today I'll try those two Ferrari events that you linked and see what lap times an average Joe like me can do.

 

Where is the option for changing the grip situated on the PC?
