I'm on the SimGrid but unfortunately at the times that I race the races are often low or no attendance. I've done a bunch of their events and they were excellent. CP has been great for me, but my point was sometimes I miss the cutoff time to enter the last CP server, so to race at the time I'm available I end up in public lobbies.

In my opinion this is the main downside that this game has. There are so many platforms that organise daily races that the player base has spread a lot and it's so difficult to find a populated grid to play outside a league.

I don't understand why there isn't an in-game section to do what these platforms do and keep the players together in one place. Kunos made the effort to implement all those player ratings, servers filtering and auto join features, but at the end it's everything useless because a public lobby will always be a public lobby...
Developing an schedule racing system is not that hard to do, I mean, it is not like improve the physics or the graphics where you need a very specialised developer, it's something that any developer can do and the prove is the amount of platforms that already exist out there.

I really thought that this was going to be accomplished at any time taking into account the game's name, the fact that it's proved that this system attract more players, and the decision to add the competition servers, that I thought that was going to be an early version of a bigger system, but seems like I was wrong.

I don't have high hopes on that. ACC was/is a real racing simulation, but I think AC2 will go back to being a driving sim in order to compete with AC1 instead of ACC. Even if there is mod-support again, I don't want to be forced to download a ton of mods in order to compete in a racing series.

The only way I could like the idea of mods, it is with kunos delevoping an official store in which modders, preferebly officials, like ferrari, could publish and sell their "mods approved by kunos" mods.
Which means that modders should share the data used to study the parameters to chose with kunos and kunos should be conviced enough to allow you to publish it.
But a universe of mods, to me, makes it less and less believable.
Moreover, I heard Aris saying they had to make a lot of compromises with the physics engine because of the wide range of g forces the many types of cars in the game were able to produce. Compromizes that have been avoided in ACC.

So for me, mods, yes, if and only if they are officially approved and distributed by kunos, which could validate the world of mods once and for all and literally create a market for every part involved (modders, constructors, tracks).
Like if Ferrari hired modders to develop a laserscanned mugello to sell to various game developers, or directly in their content stores.
But no compromizes on the physics.

 

I hope AC2 won't compete with AC1, but with iRacing.

 

if mods won't be controlled, it will not be considered as serious as iracing, that said, if CP was enhanced (I mean multiple races per hour, or the possibility to vote for track each time) Acc would have already eaten ir.

I love ACC in a lot of ways, but in terms of multiplayer it's nowhere near iRacing. Making a couple of changes to how the CP system works won't make much of a difference, and it definitely wouldn't make ACC 'eat' iRacing.

I don't really care for mods tbh. Sure, there's a lot of good mods, but I'd rather pay for official content. I don't want user-made tracks, I want the proper thing.

I'm hoping for a game with iRacing's multiplayer system combined with ACC's physics and driving pleasure. I wouldn't mind paying the same amount iRacing charges, I just want to have fun playing my hobby. Currently I'm not really enjoying ACC because multiplayer is empty and league racing doesn't fit into my schedule.

 

ok but if you had 2 gt3 cp races per hour, with different tracks, and the third with gt4 today, 911 cup tomorrow and then super trofeo at rotation, there would be not that much difference with iracing.
Or, if public lobbies (not passworded) where less customizable, at least collecting drivers only in FP, public lobbies could fill a bit the whole.

Assetto Corsa was (and still is) a truly masterpiece.
I think that depends on the sheer amount of love you sunk in it.
That's something perceivable in you work, like in old Papyrus games.

Yes, usually now i run ACC, the next "digital" thing.

Yet to be fair AC is a truly differest beast .
In my opinion it is unrivaled, except maybe by Grand Prix Legends.
Two real milestones in PC sims.

Blasting Black Cat County on a Carrera RSR ?
Racing at Spa with friends on those beautiful '60/'70 cars ?

Whatever, a nostalgic "analogic" 50yo "boy" like me would still take AC over anything else.
Hence not seeing Kunos name in AC2 hurts.
It's not the same thing.

That's not necessarily true, iRacing's sales model it's quite different than AC's, and the costs to maintain such a system would be also quite different taking into account the lightness of the ACC servers, but in any case I'm not asking for an Iracing copy inside AC, I just would like to have a way to open the game and be able to compete with other drivers of my same skill and beeing able to use in multiplayer races all the content that the game offers (something that it's currently impossible). As this is something that third party devs already did, and are being able to maintain, I think that It would be accomplishable by the game company, but I'm sure that if it wasn't done already it's because a reason that I cannot see, that's why I think this is an interesting topic to discuss IMO.

 

Its in the mindset of the companies employees , i think Iracing has established itself as a service company, providing a service to simracers just like microsoft does with office 365 or something. However I get the feeling , that Kunos is a multi-product company that always wants to develop a complete solution then take what they have learned and apply that to the next product. My sad feeling is that the anouncment of AC2 as moved the focous away from ACC, and no fundimental changes will occur to ACC in future. which i think is a shame as nothing in my opinion can currently compare to ACC.

 

The ideal would be continued development of ACC for the foreseeable with GT and maybe touring cars remaining in that product.

AC2 for modern road cars, maybe a further product for historic cars. Kunos have said that accommodating all types of 4 wheel machinery within the same physics engine involves quite an amount of compromise. It’s easy to see how ACC’s focus has benefited the GT race experience.
