Community poll historic Spa

Good to know.

 

If we can only have a limited number of historic tracks I'd rather see time spent on venues with F1 or WSC history.

Goodwood's a lovely traditional venue for current historic car events but as for adding it officially to AC I don't really see the point.

 

I've try the illegal conversion of SPA 67 ripped from RFactor 2, very well done conversion but absolutely boring with modern cars a lot challenging with classic cars such as GT40 and Porsche(s).

 

Many hours with sweaty hands on my ACT labs RS and shifter sliding around this GPL track, back in the day ( I am so slow with the H shifters....). The update looks very good. I think it would be an excellent "road" track in AC for high speed super cars too. Maybe another less labour intensive vintage track would be nice. What we need really is a competitor for the old Lotus' .......vintage Ferrari, where are you?

Im not really into the history of certain drivers or specific events but im pretty sure Goodwood did host F1 non championship races.

The fact that it still exists and is raced on to this day is another point... It could be scanned.

Yet another one would be the relatively short distance of the circuit and easy scenery to model. You could probably do 2 or 3 Goodwoods in the time it would take to make Spa.

I'd like to see classic Spa as well though dont get me wrong.

 

An interesting historic track is Imola, the old layaout without chicanes is perfect for classic cars, I remember, in GPL, Tamburello was very exciting with a F1' 67.
I think is a good option for KS, they have laser scaned all the track, with only removing the chicanes and chaging objects like adverts and fences we would have a great adittion to AC

I see they have an historic Spa in their AC league. They're using some conversion, maybe from RF2?
In any case the track looks nice. They seem to go flat out on the F312T but racing other cars there looks pretty exciting and dangerous.

 

A good thing about classic spa is that we would get more use of the LM aero package.

 

Goodwood does have both F1 and WSC history. Goodwood hosted F1 races from 1949-65 and WSC races from 1958-1964.

IMO Goodwood would be way more better for online racing. It would take much less to lap it, much less rage quitting, more close fights. It is fast, good flowing, technical, exciting. And it is very nice to relate to Goodwood events, which always hosts a few outstanding races.

But I guess Tiago never made a conversion of a track, which would ever come as official content. If I was making tracks...

 

Non world championship events though as many places did.

It's ideal for a mod, but as official content I'm not sure it's worth it.

 

Have you got any particular reason for that though? I completely understand if you just dont like the track, I dont really want or like classic or modern Imola (havent bothered to try the recently added version in AMS) but "dont really see the point" and "not really worth it" seem like odd comments to make. is it a prestige thing? Goodwood hosts some of the most popular historic yearly events in the world and was used in the 40's 50's & 60's and remains unchanged more or less to this day. to my mind it would make a lot of sense and seems feasible where classic Spa as the devs mentioned is a huge undertaking (even with partial scan) if its a year long thing like Nords I cant see it happening and I would vote against it in favour of multiple tracks.

 

Goodwood is fantastic little track. For it's relatively small size it's quite quick. I've been in real life to watch the Revival, would love to see it in AC as it would be good for close racing as well as solo laps. Suits the older cars but they do have "members meetings" where people bring their (expensive) cars down to lap / show off.

Tempted to make my own... I have the mod version but it's very dated. I'd love to recreate the paddock area too, you can drive in it on the mod but lacks detail. I'd like to do 2 versions; one 'Revival' where it's all old and has the WW2 aspects and one just plain, as it is today on any other weekend. But, can't mod so can't as I've never done it before!

Surprised @LilSki hasn't done this one, would fit in nicely beside Riverside / Bridghampton as a genuine historic track with character. Lots of reference material about too.

As for Spa... too bigger task I feel. Especially considering the limited content we have in AC for that period.

 

Kunos would have to commission a 3rd party to make Spa that seems the only way. I do agree it's a massive project but as a classic venue I'd say it's worth it.

 

Unfortunately, I never really liked Goodwood in GPL, but I'd say I'd also take it for AC ;-) The mentioned arguments seem reasonable.

Personally I also never liked Brands Hatch in GPL, but it's "entertaining" in AC. So who knows, maybe I'd revise my opinion about Goodwood. I'd for sure get a DLC with Goodwood AND some classic F1 cars.

 

If I was to pick one in GPL I would immediately go fight for Clermont Ferrand, 2nd would be Zandvoort. Spa and Goodwood are out of my list.

There are/were so many awesome tracks back in the day. Much more than there are track modders

Sergio released 60s Hockenheim today, IMO it is rather well done, just short version for now. I find it very good track.

There were so many tracks.. And even those which still exist are very very different now.

By definition, the WSC races were world championship events. I don't see how the non-championship status of the F1 races really makes any difference.

The point is Goodwood could be laser scanned while other historic circuits cannot. This makes it ideal for official content IMO.

 

I wouldn't say that laser scanning should be the criteria. Monza66, Silverstone67 and Zandvoort aren't laser scanned if I'm right and they're all fine
