Why on earth would I do that? I don't race in AC, I mod physics.

For the sake of science in this thread I will run a full grid tonight and report my frames, but that's not how I use AC, hence why it's not an issue.

So did I hear right in todays "Look what the cat hacked in"episode that Stefano has a GTX 1080-GPU?

He also talked a lot about the collaboration between GPU and CPU, multi-cores/threads and the fact that AC is designed for PP-effects ON.

Don't know if he's aware that most players who turn PP off do it because of performance reasons. Even with PP OFF I can't throw in many AI-opponents in VR (Rift) for example. No chance at all with PP ON. I read that even GTX 1080 owners can't run larger grid in VR with fluid 90 FPS. So Stefano should know this if he owns such hardware.

Concerning his CPU (multi core/thread) statements I'm still not sure if AC would run better with a fast quad-core CPU or a slower six-core-CPU...

 

I wonder what the stats are for AC owners vs. the potential market. Most PC gamers have pre-Pascal GPUs and play at 1080p. Ultimately Stefano has to attract more racers to the game... very few play with triple screens, 4k monitors, or VR headsets.

 

I just bought a Gainward GTX 1070Phoenix Golden Sample...what a beast of a GPU. It has a massive aluminium backplate and 2*100 mm fans which is a sure-shot in terms of noise and temperature. Under full load you don't even hear a whistle from the card. The datasheet says it clocks higher than 1800 MHz in boost and it actually tops that and clocks to 2 GHz. At a price tag of ~460 € it's an absolute bang/buck winner. Strongly recommended.

Performance-wise I gained 25 FPS (~26 %) from 94 to 119 benchmark AVG with my old settings optimized for the 970. With a better CPU it should have been more (I'd say 50 %), guess CPU starts to bottleneck here.

Next test was to just crank the settings, set reflection rendering frequency to ultra, smoke to high, PP to medium with all options enabled. Still getting close to 100 FPS AVG. CPU usage has gone up by around 6 % and is at 75% now. So the 2500K and the 1070 go well together despite the gap in between.

PP is taking a massive toll on FPS that can make the difference between playable and unplayable (on my old config with the 970 it ate 40 FPS on "very low" with everything else turned off). I don't know how he came up with that statement, I think it's misleading and he should elaborate at some point what was meant. I now have PP activated but honestly it's not a game changer, at all. He mentioned brake lights but I only see that the brake lights now generate some glow...I can't spot them any better and they also don't look more realistic now. With some weather/cloud mods and the right settings you can make AC look amazing without PP.
