1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Question about laser scaining

Discussion in 'Chit Chat Room' started by Radek Zukowski, Nov 10, 2013.

  1. Hi,

I have a question to Kunos guys (maybe a silly one). Do you use laser scan data to model surface of the track? I mean all the bumps, bigger and smaller. I ask because I read opinions that the data is only used to model the shape of the circuit and the surface is artificial.
I personally think that the whole point of LS is to model the surface, but who knows. Can you clarify that?

The points ARE used for every bump you feel on the wheel. Some surfaces like sand and grass have a different feel both on physics and wheel but their shape is also derived from the points cloud.
For Graphics, EVERYTHING is referenced over the Points Cloud, surfaces, objects ecc...
    :)

    Good info,

The first released build of AC is amazingly good, i need to spend more time with this sim to tune into its physics etc

Can a dev let me know :

The laser scanning method ? ( static tripod type or moving spin type of equipment )

what resolution is the point of the track surface ?

Are there any added "canned " effects that are in tracks i.e curbs etc
or the car reactions are really dictated by exactly what's in the point cloud without any interference ?

Hope I'm not being to nosy , I just like to know a bit of tech info about a sim etc

We know they use a moving van since they have told us, and there are many images online of the results:

However, we haven't gotten a screenshot of the track surface wireframe to see how detailed it really is in the game...

...I would love to see it, because the only other game which uses laser scanning is iRacing, and they have this mythical "point cloud" invisible surface that the physics runs on (and makes all their cars float in the air), but they are also very secretive and not telling much about how detailed it actually is in the game, and though their latest "tech tracks" show the point cloud of surrounding objects, they have never shown how detailed their track surfaces really are.
