1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

4 wheels out - 50 kph penalty

Forgive me if its me being monumentally thick, but it seems that the 4 wheels out of the track penalty is back and now you can't disable it via the assetto_corsa.ini

So is this me just being a wally brain or is this penalty now forced?

yeah, it seems like it's forced now in hotlap, not in practice i believe. i'd prefer to not have it.

I believe there should be some sort of penalty. While it's not great in AC at the moment, it's better than nothing.

Now i know people are not deliberately trying to take liberties, but some people will.
The only thing i can suggest(stating the obvious here-sry) is maybe go slower and stay within the track limits/boundaries.
Or... drive within the cars/your limits.

As said... not great, but AC needs something.:)
Remeber 1st Toca(1997).?? 1 wheel on the grass(very difficult to save:)) and it was probably all over.!!

I hate it. I got the impression that most people agreed this to be the worst possible way to implement a form of penalty for "shortcutted" laps. It breaks your rythm. I prefer to have the lap ivalidated instead, and I think most people thought so, or not? As long as they have no other penalty model, they should not make the worst one the mandatory one and force it down players' throats, but instead allow the workaround until they have implemented the better option. Better no penalty model than a bad penalty model. I personally prefer it to be fully optional anyway, and mandatory only for all stuff and matters that are online-related.

The first real bad choice of theirs that I have spotted in this sim. Else, it is awesome. Hope it is a temporary construction site only.

I agree that I prefer an invalidated lap, generally speaking. But that only works in a practice/hotlap type situation.

In a race situation, there needs to be something, and to me, the way it is now would do serve that function.

Would prefer that I could still blip the throttle when I'm downshifting whilst being penalised, but as currently implemented, the throttle is completely cut.

Actually you can still disable it. Just it's never been in assettocorsa.ini but race.ini in your mydocs/assetto corsa folder :) I dunno about hotlap but I know it is enforced in Time attack mode

It will be good if kunos inplement option to indicate only for penalties , no stop car option.
In all of penalty cases we need only short "Cutting" word message, IMHO

Dying Scotsman, your suggestion does not work. Nor does it work to alter the race.ini in the SteamApps installation folder of AC.

edgec0m, if you want it realistically in races, you need to spend time in the pitlane, or have a set penalty time substracted from your final race time result for every offence committed.

Baikal, an option leaving the choice to the player - who most likely also is the paying customer, btw. :) - is the way to go. Leave it to him. Me, for example, I do not care for online scoring and MP races at all. I drive the sim for the pure fun of it. My last race sim I stayed with, was GTR2. There I almost exclusively trained and hotlapped at Spa, Nordschleife, and had fun trying different setups. Often I drove without even taking care for times. Doing a fluid round without errors - much more rewarding to me than trying to push the car body beyond extremes. :D And tastes and preferences like this get so much more rewards from a superior sim like AC.

The system now interferes way too much with the huge variety of people's subjective choices for their personal gameplay preferences.

For me, changing the file in the documents\cfg folder worked.

Regarding penalties: Perhaps the best solution will be to have various options when hosting races, for different types of races and racers and whatever mood might take you and your fellow racers on any given day.

I like the iracing implementation of you cut the track you need to slow down. You control the slow down then drive on.

Forgive me yes, its the race.ini, not the assettocorsa.ini file. I have only tried it in hotlap mode not practise.

"4"...? Maybe that is the problem. I entered "-1", as before. I will check this.

  15. Skybird

    Skybird Alien

Nope, does not work, and if I would have given it some thought, I could have told you immediately that it COULD NOT work. Because the problem is that the race.ini in the mydocuments folder gets overwritten with the default value of the program, which is "2". It does not matter whether you enter "4" or "-1" and save it. When you started the sim, and leave it again, and then check that file, you see that it has flipped back to "2" again.

The race.ini entry in the Steamapps installation folder keeps the value you enter there. But that value does not seem to matter.

Are you sure your software has updated correctly? Because many people have that problem. In another forum somebody suggested a workaround, which nevertheless would be needed to be run every time you start the sim. That is to tab out of the running sim, and then edit the ini. The setting then strays alive for the session. Once the sim gets closed, and restarted again, it gets overwritten again, and you have to restart the procedure. Not really what I like.

And forget to write-protect the ini file in mydocuments. The sim refuses to launch then.

    I didn't write protect anything...

what mode are you trying? hotlap or time attack it is forced, but in practice no problem

it doesnt come on when in practice anyway so your change is doing nothing

  20. edgec0m

Yeah, I now notice that my .ini file reverted back from my change, and indeed I've only been doing practice mode in v0.2 since this... So I would tend to think you're right, the practice mode used to penalise in 0.1.2, and v0.2 no longer does.

Its good that an off-track penalty is annoying. Gives a bit of extra motivation to concentrate and keep the car on track.
