1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

AMD Ryzen CPUs

At the same cpu clocks the R7's are 25-35% faster in some applications that have good multithreading, but otherwise it's usually way less difference.
I don't run such programs only occasionally, might be 1-3h per week. For that I'm perfectly fine with my 1600, too.

Also the plan to run AM4 for several years (2019 or 2020 I've read about) was one of the pro's to go AMD.
At least if I really need more I can still upgrade to an 8-core cpu for at a very reasonable price.

Got My Memory issue sorted. DOA was the HyperX FURY DDR4 16 G Memory (HX426C15FBK2/16 - two sticks of 8gig) Nothing at all, packing up and sending back to Amazon .
The G.Skill 16GB DDR4 16Go DDR4 3200MHz was plugged in, Bingo! all is ggod and Wow! with the new CPU AC is so much more than before.
To tell you the truth, when I upgraded my MSI AMD RADEON R9280X to the nVidia EVGA FTW GTX 1070 on the ASRock 990FX Extreme3 MB with AMD FX-6300 Black Edition (3.5 GHz) I was some what disappointed, don't get me wrong there was a marked difference but spending that much on a GPU I did not feel it was worth it. Several months later, upgrading to the AMD R7 1700X on the Asus Prime X370-Pro I certainly can say WOW! I have not even looked at OC'ing at this stage yet.
In AC every thing just seems so much more alive, once again don't get me wrong , AC was great before ( I have never spent the time in one game like I have with AC 998 hours, in fact its more than all games I have played ever) it is now on another level. The TM T300 seems like it has more feel in the FFB, Sound improved, Sim Commander has more fidelity, Frames have doubled with everything maxed. It is all worth it and I feel kind of relieved (justified) after spending that amount money.
Just be careful with the memory, go for the ones people have had success with, make sure your system is the same.

Can I get some more impressions from you Ryzen owners now that it's been a little while? Is AC performing smoothly with your chip? How about GTA5, are there any "hiccups" (small stutters) such as on my i72700K?
I see AMD is continuing the work to optimize for the games. Rise of the Tomb Raider just got a patch.

I'm tempted to get a Crosshair VI Hero and a 1600X (or 1700X) just to increase my chances in the silicon lottery.

Actually I think I would just recommend the first one (Flare) of those, since it's apparently the only one that is QVL-ed for the AM4 platform (X370/B350). Gskill even specifically puts (for AMD) in parentheses: http://gskill.com/en/search?keyword=F4-3200C14D-16GFX

The max. I use is 32 or 36 car AI track days, but fps limited to 60fps.
There are no issues or stutters that I notice.

I don't play other games though.

I have been using Ryzen for about 3 weeks. I promised a while ago that I would upload a video showing how it works with AC. I will do so next weekend at the latest and apologize for the delay.

I hesitated to replace my 2600K but Ryzen is definitely a significant upgrade and I'm very happy with my purchase. The price/performance ratio is truly great. I expect Ryzen to truly shine in 2018, once most new demanding games really take advantage of all those cores. It's kind of a shame to know that I'm CPU limited in some games (including AC) when I see 8 threads that are desperately craving for something to process...

Advice with Ryzen: don't be cheap with RAM. Increasing RAM frequency makes a huge difference to the minimum framerates and overall feeling of smoothness when gaming, both with AC and open world games like the Witcher 3, which I have been playing lately.

More details upcoming in a few days, when I have more time to post.

I finally uploaded a video that I think is entertaining and useful for those of you interested by Ryzen.

The video has framerate and GPU/CPU usage information at all times.

My hardware is in my signature. The settings are the following.

Is SMT is ON or is it OFF?

SMT is on. The engine just does not take advantage of the additional threads (like most games in 2017 unfortunately).

Me too! The framerate is intentionally capped at 98 fps so it could have been an explanation but we never reach that number so there's no reason for the GPU to rest. Also, no CPU thread ever reaches 100% usage so the GPU usage should definitely be higher. I'm afraid I have no explanation here. Hopefully upcoming BIOS updates or driver/OS optimizations will help. The BIOS are still pretty immature today.

It's kind of frustrating to know that your hardware is not taken full advantage of but I guess it's pretty common for new technologies.

Really can't complain with consistent 80+ fps at max settings (including reflections) and that resolution though of course.

My 2600K @4.4 Ghz was still more than capable and gave good average framerates with everything I threw at it (the bottleneck is usually not the CPU at that resolution) but I must say that Ryzen's minimum fps and the framerate consistency that I get are much improved in all the games I tested, especially open world games, even when only half the available threads are used.

Seeing the wonders Stefano could do with the new AI code, I'm confident AC2's engine will be amazing and will take advantage of the new cores and APIs. Look at DOOM's Vulkan performance: it's just unbelievable how high and consistent the framerate is, even on not so great hardware. There's so much performance to gain by leveraging the additional threads when your goal is to simulate everything.

@chalminho I wonder if it's "4 core & 8 threads" used or it's "8 core & 8 thread used". If it use only 4 cores, it mean there 4 cores available to be used for something else.

Kind of odd to see those thread locked at 0%. If you run something else in the background, do they unstuck from 0%?

You are telling me pretty much everything I want to hear in this one sentence, heheh. Coincidentally, I have the exact same CPU that you had (well, technically a 2700K but that's just a 2600K with a 100Mhz higher base clock) AND overclocked to 4.4 GHz too. :)

So, better minimums and better frametimes then? That's a pretty big deal actually. Would love to see more benchmarks where you compare your 2600K against your R1700 in both AC and other games, if you are able to.
Those would be highly relevant for me, since I now also have the same GPU (1080 Ti) as you, lol. :)

In the video, you see that basically 8 threads are used at 30-60% and that 8 threads are idle during the whole race.

My understanding of hyperthreading/SMT is that threads are not as efficient as cores and that Windows is consequently designed to put the load on the cores first. So in the case of my video, that would mean that the 8 physical cores are used and that the 8 logical threads are idle.

Game mode was activated when I recorded the video and I did not have any background programs running (except 5-6 Assetto Corsa apps maybe), meaning that almost all system resources were given to AC. Given that managing only 10 players online is not that challenging for the CPU, I do not find it surprising that the 8 logical threads were idle here. The CPU load is simply low in my video, AC does not take advantage of all these threads and the heavy lifting is done by the GPU because of the high resolution (like other games).

I can however confirm that more recent engines do use the logical threads. You can refer to benchmarks online for this but for example, on my rig, the Division, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Doom for example wake these additional threads up and split the workload on more than 8 threads. They are all Direct X12/Vulkan though. AC is only DX11.

Battlefield 1 (which I have not personally tested) is a good example too of what is coming up in the next few years: very high minimum framerates and a consistent smooth experience, because the engine splits the load on all 16 threads.

A 7700K gives higher average framerates than Ryzen in most games today because the performance per core is better and the frequency much faster than Ryzen. As games become more optimized for more threads, I expect the 7700K to become obsolete faster than Ryzen because it has fewer threads.

A historical example of this would be Sandy Bridge. A 2600K is essentially the same processor as a 2500K except that the former has hyperthreading. From 2011 to approximately 2014, there was no difference whatsoever when gaming (clock for clock of course). As games become more optimized for more threads, the 2500K is becoming obsolete because it has only 4 threads whereas the 2600K is still a very good gaming CPU today, including for recent titles.

I expect the same trend to repeat in the next few years. I predict that a 7700 K will be obsolete gaming wise in 3-4 years whereas the Ryzen 7 will not be. The lower performance per core vs Intel is not a big deal today at the resolution I play at (I could not care less about having 115 fps vs 110). 16 slightly slower than Intel cores at around €350 is a steal today in my opinion.

I won't be able to show you comparisons as I have replaced my 2600K (so can't run games anymore on it) and was waiting for my new system before trying modern demanding games. There are videos on Youtube that compare Sandy Bridge to Ryzen or Skylake/Kaby Lake. This is one of them.

I guess the facts that my GPU is not maxed out and that only 8 threads are working show that something's wrong with my rig. Can other Ryzen users please confirm how many threads AC uses on their rigs?

My apologies because the video is not representative then. Even then, the fact that it performs so well even if something's wrong is good news for Ryzen...

I still have a beta BIOS based on AGESA 1.0.0.4. I read that AMD published a new version of AGESA a couple of days ago and that manufacturers will release a BIOS based on it at some point in June.

I'll mess more with my BIOS settings and overclocks then. Ram timings and frequencies get randomly reset to lower settings once in a while on my rig and I can't exclude that the same thing would happen with SMT I guess.

I'll wait for a stable BIOS based on AGESA 1.0.0.6 and see if that fixes things.

Maybe i should have added that but Im also using a Ryzen so its not a issue with AMD.

Don't worry nothing is wrong with your system. This behaviour is well known and no-one have ever answered. My system too, can have fps unlock and all cores of cpu well below 80-90% and GPU well below 80-90% at the same time.
Something is holding the system. There is a bottleneck somewhere .

Only @Lord Kunos can tell us what that is.
