1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Generic Weekly Hotlap Challenge #114 – Championship Start, Formula 1 in ‘54

Discussion in 'Console Lounge' started by Totall Wrytoff, Feb 3, 2019.

  1. Welcome to the thread for the Weekly Hotlap Challenge #114 – Championship Start, Formula 1 in ’54 and the start of the Weekly Hotlap Championship League.

    The Challenge: Hotlap
    Car: Maserati 250F 6 cylinder
    Track: Barcelona Moto
    upload_2019-2-3_22-9-14.png
    upload_2019-2-3_22-9-27.png
The first week of our new WHCC (Weekly Hotlap Championship) League, so everyone who enters this week will win points and become part of the WHCCL Details are repeated below.

This month will also be Specialist Challenge, Formula 1 for February. February’s WHCs will feature Formula 1 cars and a winner will be announced at the end of the month.

We start, by popular demand, the Maserati 250f. Your Formula 1 car in 1954. Thinking about the hybrid F1 car today, it is actually, completely and utterly mindboggling.
The 250f was powered by a 2.5-litre Maserati straight-six engine and slowed by ribbed 13.4" drum brakes, whatever they are. Forget today’s (energy) “recovery,” in 1954 you don’t really even get retardation!
The only Hybrid element in those days was the fuel. The car didn’t run on plain old petrol, but used a mixture of 50% methanol, 35% petrol, 10% acetone, 4% benzol and 1% castor oil. (Do not try this at home!) I know what castor oil does to me. However, if you owned the car you had the choice of using a more radical mix and playing with the compression ratio…

Sir Stirling Moss raced his own privately owned 250F in the 1954 season and later said that the 250F was the best front-engined F1 car he drove. For advice on mastering this week’s challenge, here are his actual words: “It steered beautifully, and inclined towards stable oversteer which one could exploit by balancing it against power and steering in long sustained drifts through corners. It rode well on the normal type of relatively smooth-surfaced course, although its small coil springs and leaf spring rear-end would use up available suspension movement over the bumps at the 'Ring".

Those of you wanting the authentic experience will need to rearrange your pedals. In the 250F, pedals were arrayed in what was then known as the Continental fashion with the accelerator in the centre, the brake to the right and the clutch on the left.

Below is Fangio’s works car from 1957 (Tipo and 12 cylinders by then,) at midnight in the paddock at the Monaco Historiques. Apologies for the shaky shot, it had been a very, very long day. Notice the added roll hoop.
    upload_2019-2-3_22-12-40.png
Barcelona Moto, not lapped since WHC#75 (I believe,) seemed like a good track to try out Sir Stirling’s advice.

Recommended tyre pressure for the GP54s is 40ps1 all round with a generous temp window of 40-90

How to take part - Hot lap:
To enter, select Drive > Hotlap, choose the Maserati 250F 6 cylinder and the Barcleona Moto Circuit. Please setup the session using the settings below:
    Mode: Hotlap Barcelona Moto
    Time of day: Free
    Ambient Temp: 26 Degrees
    Setup: Free
    Controller: Free

    Stability: Free

To qualify for WHC you must have the ambient temp set to 26 DegC.

    Deadline: Sunday 10th February 2019 - 21:00 GMT.

You can run as many laps as you like and update your times as often as you like, it’s simple All Platforms are welcome, it is all about having fun and enjoying Assetto Corsa.

    Weekly Hotlap Challenge Championship League
    How it works:
    1. Enter the Weekly Hotlap Challenge as posted every Sunday evening and you will be automatically entered into the league table.
    2. Your ranking in the final standings, posted on Sunday evening, will earn you points, as follows:
    Place Points: 1st 14 2nd 13 3rd 12 4th 11 5th 10 6th 9 7th 8 8th 7 9th 6 10th 5
    3. Every player taking part in a WHC, but finishing outside the top 10 will get 4 points.
    4. Every player who is in the table, (ie has entered a previous WHC) but does not play that week will get three points each week.
    5. Players that join WHC after next week's WHC#114 will be awarded 3 points retrospectively for every WHC missed. For example, if you enter WHC for the first time at WHC#124, your name will be added to the table, with 27 points, plus whatever you score in WHC#124.
    6. Each week 5 bonus points may be awarded at "the judges' discretion". Criteria for earning the Bonus Points are not fixed but will include:
*An amusing pic or amusing post
    * Any "very excellent" contribution to the forum/ group
*Significant effort and improvement (so either lots of times submitted, or a big improvement between the first time submitted and final time)
    *Posting a brilliant set-up
*Continuous participation - loyalty to WHC
    * Correcting mistakes by the administrator OR anything else the judges decide worthy.
    7. Specialist Challenges will also feature throughout the season. These will be as monthly mini-series, for example Formula 1 February or Muscle Car Month, or nominated car types, for example the best driver in road cars. These events will be announced in the WHC Thread. The winner of each Specialist Challenge will receive 5 bonus points.
The updated Championship league table will be displayed in a new post in the Console Lounge each week.

At the end of the year, the WHC before Xmas week, the winners will be declared -
    * Championship podium
    * Specialist Challenge Winners
    * 1st place Contributor (the most Bonus points)
    * 1st place Loyal Lapper (who has entered most regularly, most often, if there is a draw, Bonus points count, then Champ points)

WOOO HOOOO! This is gonna be my fav combo yet! I'm totally excited to have a go here. Its been quite a while since I drove the old 250F but its the car that made me into the simracer that I am now because it teaches you the fundamentals in a very unforgiving way. Everybody (well namely, me) thinks that they understand how to hotlap properly i.e. trail braking, gradual throttle application, gentle steering, hitting apex's, using the full track but then you step on the gas in the 250f and you realize that you have not actually been using the techniques you thought you were, because the car has a mind of its own and if you can't perform flawlessly then you'll either be slow or dead! The body roll, shiite brakes, terrible tires, etc, its just such a beast! It makes me smile all the time.

I used to think that winning in the 250f was the epitome of excellence because imo its the car that defines a drivers skills more than any other car in ac. I have since come to realize that there are two types of race car driving skill sets, those who are fast in cars with downforce, and those who are fast in cars without downforce. I prefer cars without downforce and I like to think I can drive them fairly quickly and that is because I have realized that I am slow in cars with downforce. I have a hard time because high downforce cars don't give much feedback there's no body roll, the tires are super sticky, steering does exactly what you want it to, the brakes work amazingly well, etc. It just feels wrong somehow hahah. Then add on Kers and drs and TC and whatever else it just starts to feel fake to me, whose driving the car at that point, me or the ai?

Anyways enjoy this online race where I make my way up through the field.

I'd also like to say WOW and that I'm excited by the new WHC format and I am impressed with the effort and time that goes into this. I try to show my appreciation by participating each week - also because its fun! So Thanks!!
