1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

@Biner I am braking at the red marking on the fence at t1 and I’m using abs. I use 100% braking power. It’s inportant to brake in a straight line as much as possible because that’s the best way to maximize grip while braking.
Once you need to start turning in towards the apex it becomes all about trail braking which is a bit of an art. I am getting better but I’m no expert.

It’s balancing the tires 3 types of grip - acceleration, braking and cornering. So in the beginning of the corner you use 100%braking forces, but then once you start to turn you need to lessen the braking forces to allow the tire to use some cornering forces to get around the corner . So approaching the apex you’ll be at 10-15% braking but 85%+ cornering forces. At the apex you should be off the brakes and gas so the tires will be at 100% cornering forces. Just after the apex, as you centre the steering wheel, you apply the throttle in order to keep use of the maximum grip of the tire, the opposite way of trail braking. So that when the wheel is straight youre back to full throttle and 100% acceleration forces.

I know this all makes intuitive sense but until I started thinking about the amount of grip available like a Venn diagram I had a hard time realizing the full potential of what the car could do.

    Braking. Acceleration
    Max grip (Optimal lap time)
    Cornering

^thats my Venn diagram - you have to imagine the circles lol.

I spent a lot of time in old sloppy cars with soft suspensions and little skinny tires, like Maserati 250f, lotus 25, Ac cobra, Mercedes sls amg. Cars like that amplify the effects of using too much brake or throttle or steering, it’s easier to figure out why you spun at a certain spot.
Watching your replays and having the throttle/brake display on will help.

Then I moved on to the momentum cars like the Mazada mx cup. The brakes on that car are so overpowered it becomes a question of how little braking can I get away with and still make the corner?
The ford escort 1600 has a hard time putting the power down so it’s a good car to concentrate on corner exits.

One thing I have noticed though is that if you get skilled at driving these sloppy "street cars" it doesn't necessarily mean you'll be skilled at driving high downforce race cars. The skills aren't neccessarily transferable...

Don’t forget to look at your data telemetry as well. I used to think I was good at trail braking till I saw that my braking curves weren’t really curves just on/off, lol. Even now, I know I either don’t have the skill, or I need to adjust some setting in order to finesse the brake pedal properly. Worst case scenario I need a better set of pedals with more resolution.
Look at the throttle curve too - it’s not supposed to be an on/off switch either. You want curves that look like ski slopes.

  3. So, @Biner, there you well and truly go! Any questions?:D
I for one have been trying to replicate @Pretend racer 's braking into Rivazza. The rule now is to pick a point 20m before he starts to slow and hammer the brakes there. It sometimes make the corner, most times still not.

From all of us WHCers I'm sure; thank-you so much for your contribution @Pretend racer - superb, actionable insight and guidance.
It will be some time, or maybe never, before I'm able to drive at the limit whilst constructing Venn diagrams in my head. But we can all now see and understand how to improve our braking.
@Pretend racer, you are an artist and a scientist, genius and guru!
This is a doctorate level master class from the WHC Chief Instructor everyone, lap it up!:)

Awesome good information and I believe I am guilty of on off braking and on off throttle, both of which are useful for initiating spins, especially combined with unsettling the car on by taking too much curb. I have not looked at telemetry at all...I will do that as well. Thanks to @Pretend racer for taking the time to pass on such hard won lessons.

The joys of the training course. Not only am I now freshly requalified to dig up your street and cause infinite traffic misery, I was also home early enough to have a go on this before the Mrs. & kids got back.

I turned both anti roll bars down to zero and got a significant improvement.

A bit more perseverance and a '47 came along.

I had a big weave out of the first chicane and lost time but got it back in the tight chicane and off the last turn.

I'm getting haunted by the phantom distraction now though so I will retire here.

    Nice combination. :)

This was rough. Guess I really need to start putting in time again behind the wheel! Honestly feels like starting from square one with this challenge.
