Bikes in Assetto Corsa

Yes I know the question is silly and I know that AC is a CAR Simulator, too.
But Kunos does such great work with their models, tracks, sounds.
What do you think about bikes AC?

 

No … just … no.

 

Personally I'd love to see motorbikes in Assetto Corsa. But I think without peripherals and motion simulator specifically for bike controls the simulation would never do the real thing justice. Bringing bikes into AC would also ultimately take away from the development on the car side of things, at least in terms of assets creation.

Btw. you might be interested in that something called netBike exists (netKar is the predecessor of AC) - check Stefano Casillo's early videos on his channel. So I think Kunos wouldn't necessarily mind, if they had the means to implement it and the market existed for it. But as of right now... no.

 

You can more or less simulate driving/racing a car at home, sitting in a chair. It's your hands and feet that are required.

With bikes, you need your full body to properly simulate the requirements. Meaning you cant 'simulate' it anywhere near to the same degree without some serious equipment.

No. But only because I have not the slightest interest in bikes in general.
Other than that it would be interesting to see if bikes could be properly simulated, as you cannot use your body to drive them on a PC.

That looks great. The graphics are maybe a bit outdated but there is nothing that is impossible to fix.

 

I have VERY limited bike experience, but just wondering how would you separate leaning the bike to turn into a corner, from turning the handle bars ?

Edit, actually after some thinking, a motion sense console controller could be configured to acknowledge "leaning", and turning the handle bars separately,...I think.

 

Making good bike controls on a PC sim is nearly impossible. For cars, possible.. for bikes no because it's physical in a way that gamepad cannot deliver (or any control peripheral). Driver weight shift mainly. Even if the physics would be AC quality, it would be bland imo.. Only way it would be interesting would be AI driving a bike, and then you try to beat him on a car. But don't think it's very necessary addition

I'm amazed people compare arcade racers where bike physics and handling have nothing to do with reality with AC.
I can't get some people to make-believe they are driving a car because no G-forces are felt in their butt dynos in AC and you want good simulation of leaning, neck ripping 2 wheel rockets? How do you propose that would actually be implemented? Turn your $400 wheels to lean? Your shifter is lean forward and lean back functions? HAT buttons control butt placing and shifting on the seat for knee out? AC has no realistic head movement without mods and you want it to model POV of a rider going full lean to opposite full lean in 1.5 seconds as it happens in the world of pro bike racing.
Not ONE pure bike game could replicate the actual POV or feelings you get on a sport bike in real life, AC is still missing a ton of features and you're wondering why no bikes are implemented.

 

Yep, agree on that. I enjoyed motorbike games though, Superbike 2001 was great for example.

 

Just a few days ago I saw a simulator for motorbikes and it looked awesome, you got to sit on it just like you would normally and it was a consumer product but I'm not sure the cost.

Why is the sound so bad in comparison to the graphics on all of these?

 

Ride 2 was released a week ago on Steam. Seems pretty good. I'm not into motorbikes, just saw the announcement.

They also have the Nordschleife (see the third preview video) which resembles AC's version quite a bit with less graffiti.

 

If I remember correctly, someone asked about the addition of bikes some time ago and Stefano or some other Kunos member showed up and sayed they had done this before (in form of netBike), but won't do it in AC. Maybe someone remembers where the discussion was and can find the quote.

 

Gamesounddesign isn't so easy. You need to record many sounds of all vehicles and edit them for the game. To much cost for most developers
