Well you can be forgiven, "they all look the same"

 

I head to the curated challenges and choose something different

 

Ford GT40, Porsche 908, Ford Escort, Lotus 49, Alfa GTA.. now you made me think about it, favs are all 60s / 70s cars..

 

GT3RS on Nords, I spent a good few months driving that almost exclusivley to get gold in the challenge. At first I hated it, then it was a love hate relationship, then it was just meant to be

The challenges are a good way to experience different car/track combos

 

Any of the "vintage" cars provide a really good challenge.

Porsche 908 and Ferrari 330P4 are standouts for me.

 

Most cars in AC are quite special (not you FWD buckets). Depends on whether you want to enjoy cars for the driving or to be competitive in MP racing, this dicatates if you stick to racing machinery or get into that treasure chest that are street cars with street or vintage tires. You will then either realize how sad GT2 and GT3 (the cars themselves, not AC) is feel wise or you will go back to your downforce factories.

 

Add to this list the Alfa 155, it feels really raw and nice but yet controllable.

I'm not a great driver, and really prefer cars that I can 'feel', which usually ends up meaning 'vintage'.

 

For me - 458 and 488, 718 Cayman S and AE86 Tuned - for their great balance, finesse, and ability to be both precise track weapon and playfull sideways-going toy. Really, brilliant, brilliant cars...

 

Porsche 917k on Nordschleife. Classic content is breathtaking in AC

Overall though, I'm usually driving street cars or 90's DTM.

The Japanese pack definitely shines as well.

917k on Nords is to me, one of the ultimate and most brutal sim-driving experiences. All 4 tires spinning at different rates at nearly 80% of the track lol, and you can FEEL it happening.

One thing I've come to realize with Assetto Corsa, is how amazing forgotten content is, too. Some kind of magic brings back the old, and forgotten and opens your eyes all over again and makes that 1000hrs playtime reset in the mind.

 

The most enjoyable cars to drive are probably the Ferrari 312T, and the Mclaren F1 GTR for me. For racing against others (opposed to pure driving), i think i enjoy the Porsche GT3 Cup the most.

 

I’m surprised the 330 P4 isn’t getting more love, but we are so spoiled for choice now...

Imagine the reaction if you could borrow the Tardis and go back to the days of AC early access in November 2013. If you posted the December 2017 AC car list, people would think you’d started on the Christmas cheer a couple of days early... Laser scanned Nordschleife? Lambos lol, 20 Porsches... are you out of your mind...

 

The car that actually got me hooked by AC when it was still in early access era is the Formula Abarth. I had never been an open wheeler fan before that. The car still gets lots of use online and a good starting point for anything IMO.
