1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Progressive system penalty

Discussion in 'Chit Chat Room' started by Darcy Callai Junior, Dec 29, 2014.

  1. Could be a good idea.. The problem is that the server side might not have enough geometric information about the track to actually make a decision... let alone defer that to external plugins.

  2. you still to deal with him. Scenario... you are 4th.. potentially lapping faster than the guys in front of you.. an *****le jumps the chicane and now he is in front of you, probably slower.. so yes he has got a penalty, but in order to win the race, you'll have to pass this guy (with all the danger associated with it) or sit behind him wasting time.. that's what I meant with "he shouldn't be there."

  3. this is very interesting.. perhaps we should concentrate on the re-entry part of the story. Very simple rule, you can only rejoin the track at <50kmh.. (it is like that right now).. We could apply this only to situations where 4 wheels are off the track (ie. cuts).. So, you make a mistake and go out in the grass? Remember to rejoin at <50kmh if you don't want a penaly... as long we're happy that all other "half cuts" will not be sanctioned.

The only problem I can see with that is that it could lead to dangerous re-entry of the track because of the speed differential.

I.e. Someone tries to cut Monza T1 and slows down to 50kph before re-entry to avoid a drive-through, but because of that area of the track, he emerges very close to the racing line on the entry to Curva Grande, there could be a huge collision due to the speed differential between the car re-entering the track and the car(s) on the racing line.

Obviously there's an element of common sense involved, so that if you see a car coming behind at great speed, obviously don't block them.

But it's a good idea none the less.

  5. true.. I remember in FVA we didn't flag the outside of a corner as invalid because in our tests it didn't look like an advantage.. but all the fast laps ended up using that zone. It's usually a safe bet to assume it's not an advantage but it's not universally true (another case.. exit of Ascari at Monza).

  6. that's why at the end, no matter what I do, something will no be right. TBH, I feel like I am wasting my time because I know ppl will still complain whatever it happens.. but AC is a big success and because of that I also feel I need to try my best to make things right and give back to you guys even if it's a loosing battle.

The truth is.. reality is fuzzy... ppl are still debating 1998 Schumacher - Coulthard crash.. the mere thought that some machine AI could do a better job than humans for this is simply ridiculous.

I will always find a time penalty, an enforced slowdown, arcade and unrealistic. It's an immersion breaker. That is just my personal opinion. I like my sim racing to be as real world as possible.

I know that league racing is a small part of the AC audience, however I've had an idea to make it as realistic to real life race penalties and stewarding...

Okay, so you have your automated penalty system for casual public lobbies and club races, and single player. But then for league races the automated penalty system can be turned off, however, all of the penalties (invalidated laps, grid penalties, drive throughs, time penalties, position exchanges etc.) can still be used by the "race stewards" (who will be spectating the race once/if a spectator mode is implemented) to apply penalties in real time via server commands. Then a message will appear on that drivers' screens to notify them that they've recieved a penalty.

This way, racing incidents, cuts, crashes etc. etc. can all be dealt with in the exact way they're dealt with in real life.

I'm probably being totally optimistic here, but it's something I'm hoping to be able to do at some stage in sim racing :D

  10. Agree. At the end of the day.. it's all down to find out a way to differentiate between intentional cut and mistakes.. that's the hard part, once that is ok, I have no problem inflicting maximum pain to deliberate cuts (ie. drive thru and black flags, disconnection).. but I honestly won't be able to sleep at night thinking a mistake is turning into a drive thru in AC.

How many league races have a human steward spectating?

For leagues, I still prefer my 3 warnings/drive thru penalty app, enforced by the system, not a human. It's already proven in our league.

But that's the beauty of 3 warnings. A mistake can be worn. Have you seen the way my app detects cuts? Based on track exit and re-entry speeds and time off-track.

  13. I think once the server can output a sensible race report with cuts number and location.. it should be possible for leagues to take actions even without spectating stewards.

  14. yes.. very clever indeed. I'll try that.

You are of course right, no matter what you implement there will always be people who think it's rubbish, those who think it's easy to code what humans think, but it's almost universally agreed (especially for MP) that the current slow down system is dangerous to innocent racers.
Public servers are where communities find 'new blood'. Please don't dismiss them in favour of organized leagues.

The RDVSC2 had real time stewarding from my fellow RD staff members.

The RD-VFAC league that I run would be massively helped by having real-time human stewarding available. Getting the people to do it would be no problem because all of us hard core simmers love this kind of stuff. At the moment I'm basically just applying time penalties and point deductions from drivers. But it would be great to be able to apply these things as they happen, especially qualifying grid penalties.

An automated system would be epic as well, but nothing can beat a human controlled system.

  17. They need different things.
Public races need fair and automatic systems.
Leagues need good data to make intelligent decisions.

Sorry to ask, but will the penalty system be related to flag system? And somehow making it mandatory for people to follow what the flag color says, otherwise he faces penalties? I don't really know how flags and their penalties work, only know the basic yellow, blue, and black flag; but I'm talking about what FIA uses in their series, but automated and adapted to our game.

I know I'm late to the party but I still think for random online public racing the gran turismo invisibility system is a good option. It completely eliminates t1 divebombers and wreckers by making cars invisible that either brake super super late or don't brake at all. If you want to turn it off then naturally that should be there too for leagues and serious servers. Basically such system has few triggers:
    - cut the track
    - do not brake into slow corner or brake extremely late (no chance of making the corner)
    - exit out of pits in the middle of the race in front of the lead drivers
    - consistant hard contact with other players
    - brake checking in the middle of straights
    - inconsistant data signal (packet loss, lag)

By saying make car invisible I mean make the car look like ghost. You can see him but you can't hit him.

The biggest problem with the 50kmh slowdown in ac is that it is so easy to lose control of your car when the game basically takes 90% of the car control away from you. Especially fwd cars are just plain difficult to drive when you are trying to rejoin the track. So if the 50kmh penalty stays then maybe have option to make the car invisible could be nice. Also if the car needs to slow down then at least try to make it happen in neutral way so that the effect kicking in doesn't cause the car to go into oversteer

How does that system work with a spectator? With endurance races you can't see the whole track and so also not every cut/collision.
