Hard to believe that the sucessor of the F430 was presented to the world in the Frankfurt motorshow almost ten years ago!
I remember when it came our, i didn't think much of it. "It's hardly a good looking car" i would often say to anyone who still bothered to listen me. Thing is, looking at cars in google images is not really the same as seeing them in real life. And the first time i saw one of theses boys in real life, i immediatly feel in love with it. Imposing, menacing, slick...all of the things a supercar needs to look.
But forget about the outside.The best part of this car is what's under the hood: a 4.5 V8 engine with 570 bhp that sounds like music to ears.
It's actually depressing to think that driving it in AC is the closest i will be to this car




Every layout of Highlands it's amazing! The "Drift" is probably the most underrated and less used. I guess the name scares people away and makes them think this is some sort of real drift circuit where racing is impossible to do. Well, it's not,quite the opposite actually. Racing here is as fun and serious as in the other layouts, because most turns aren't that "drifty" (i will reserve a patent and trademark on that word ) but to be honest i know nothing about drifting. I reckon the 458 is not the ideal car to try to slide it with the handbrake aswell, so i recommend a racing approach to this one rather than a stylish one. Unless,of course, if want to amaze the people on the forum

Please make sure you have the ambient temperature set correctly, and that you are in hotlap mode, I really don't like disallowing times!

Sunday September 30th 2018 - 22:00 GMT.

How to take part!
To enter simply head into the game select Drive > Hotlap and choose the Ferrari 458 Italia and head to Highlands Drift. Make sure you setup the session using the settings detailed in this thread and hit the track!

You can run as many laps as you like and update your times as often as you like, its simple All Platforms are welcome, it is all about having fun and enjoying Assetto Corsa.

To submit a time, pause the game and select 'session' from the menu and screenshot this page or take a photo of your screen and post it in this thread - Note all the information from the screen is required including temperature, mode heading and of course the car being used!

Feel free to post video clips and share information in here as well, but without the session screen your time will not be included (placing the session screen in a video clip is acceptable).

You also need to state the time and your platform in the body of your post, this should be the first thing you do, the image should then be placed below the text. It would also be helpful to mark updated times with Improvement. This makes collating the results much easier.Also,to avoid mistakes on laptimes,please enter them with the format x.xx.xxx. This format makes it easier to work with Excell.
A leader board will be collated from time to time, this will keep everyone up to date on where they currently stand...Unfortunately editing of posts gets locked on this forum so this post will not be updated.

Feel free to use the unofficial leaderboard but remember you still need to include the session screen in this thread to be included in the results.

I’ve a question for you experienced wheel users. I’m just updating the firmware and....
My wheel is 1080 dor.
Should I change it to 900 dor or is it best to just leave it at default 1080?

I’ve never used the control panel for a wheel before so it’s all new to me.

Just bought GT Sport lets see what this game brings to the gameplay/drive feeling of it and one of my favourite track is also included " Panorama Badhurts "

 

Wow, talk about chronic understeer. I'm sure it's fantastic on a straight road, but show it a bend and it just wants to plow on. I have to keep reminding myself to brake sooner than I think, usually before the proceeding corner!

Any tips on how to drive a really understeery car? On corner entry I'm trying to trailbrake to keep some load on the front tyres, but it isn't helping. Perhaps too much brake.

 

I’ve been exactly the same.
Every corner I was braking into the corner and just sliding along past the corner WTF!!!
I’m now braking only in a straight line a lot earlier than usual.
It’s the only way I can make the corners

i haven't tried this combo yet, I will today though, but I have driven this car before and I find that it understeers the same way all MR cars seem to do. The only way I know of to combat the understeer is to get on the throttle later than you would with a FR car, almost to the point where the car needs to be pointing straight otherwise you'll plow off the course. Point and shoot is the name of the game with this car. Apexes will end up looking like a V rather than a nice arcing U. Hope that makes sense.

Not afraid to post a really slow time...
Went for an early morning run in the "Ford Blue" version, with lovely "alarm clock" yellow interior. I was hoping the lower track temp would benefit. It doesn't, surprisingly for this circuit (TC off) I couldn't get get the rears warm.
Also surprising to read about the understeer. According to the reviews the 458 is a very pointy car. I'm no expert but one certainly needs to brake in a straight line, then swing it in towards the apex, picking up the throttle as you go. Clearly I haven't managed to get anywhere near this ideal , I can't keep the Pissed Pony in a straight line.

 

A name/expression to remember " Point and shoot " I like that bang bang .

 

Enjoying this already! Still pretty slow but it's a lot of fun. I find a good way to fix the understeer is to live up to the name of the track and take the long corners with a good helping of opposite lock (OK, it's not very fast but still )

I don’t think I have driven this layout a lot, it took me a few laps to learn the finer points of the track.

It seems the only real corner where the point and shoot technique actually works on is the right right handed that’s at the top of the mountain. I gained a half second there by overshooting the apex and accelerating hard straight (as u can) down the hill.

This is a tricky track, kinda frustrating because it’s really hard to be consistent here. With all the barriers here and the massive understeer I needed more than the average amount of restarts.

I started out using schnapps tune for Mugello, which does a great job of eliminating some of the understeer. I ended up setting my fastest time with Labbe’s tune for donnington, which understeers more than schnipps tune. Weird.

I am loving this car! I desperately hope the real thing would be as much fun to drive - not that I'm likely to put that to the test
I have driven this track quite a bit, having originally neglected it cos of the name (and cos I don't drift) but it's a joy to drive. The blind corners make it quite tricky in places though.
