1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Benchmark results, food for thought

So I finally upgraded my old but still not that bad Saphire HD 7850. It was a great card considering what I paid for it and the fact that it's still able to run (on low settings mostly) new games @ 60FPS is amazing. It was running @ 1100MHz for over 3 years, so almost 30% more than stock (860) and never had any issues with it. Temps never higher than 65C even in summer when it's terribly hot, noise level also acceptable at highest 50% fan speed that it was running during really hottest days. The one downside of my old 7850 is 1gb of VRAM and it was causing FPS drops on Nordschleife with bigger grid.

At first I was looking forward to RX480, when they released it I turned my head towards the GTX 1060. But since there are still issues with availability here and I came across a great deal for a new GTX 970 I simply bought that one. It's a Strix OC version, I just got my hands on it so quickly ran some benchmarks and didn't have time to OC further than Asus did.

Here are some comparisons of 7850 1GB and GTX 970.

My "racing" settings that I was using till today. The difference is that 7850 always was at ~980MB of VRAM usage and 970 nicely showed that it's not enough by using 1600MB on the same settings.

It was a smart move - a 970 is plenty enough for a single screen and if it was a good deal it makes perfect sense.

I just bought a 1070 and I had the same experience as you: when testing the old settings with the 1070 I got only ~95 --> 120 FPS, which seemed a bit weak. Then I cranked the GFX settings and the FPS with 1070 stayed around 100 whereas the previous card would have gone down big time. I suppose that the CPU limits the fFPS on low settings but if you crank everything that stresses the GPU the new one will shine.

One interesting thing I got from @V8_KB post is that with initial settings 970 produced more 20% fps than 7850 with 3% lower CPU usage. I think that follows the pattern that I noticed a while ago that people with AMD GPUs usually reported higher CPU usage in AC benchmark. Probably means that AMD drivers are more CPU-hungry than their nVidia counterparts, which is not good for this CPU-intensive game

That's usual, but V8's benchmarks were done on under W7 while AMD drivers on W10 have better DX11 CPU overhead, being able to produce more draw calls. AC would have benefited from it. Also, there was constant vram swapping implied which could stress the CPU more.

1.8 brings some impressive performance results on my main Phenom II x4. Unfortunately I don't have the older bench file, but it was doing about 76fps (about ~68% CPU usage for render thread) at 3.96GHz with same 16.8.2 driver and 7970 @1020/1405 (only 1.050v ASIC), now it's:

    AC VERSION: 1.8 (x64)

    WORLD DETAIL: 5 SMOKE:3
    PP: QLT:3 HDR:1 FXAA:1 GLR:3 DOF:3 RAYS:1 HEAT:1

It's a crazy 44% increase on a 6 year old model CPU. Finally since 1.6, CPU render thread usage is back to >80% instead of lagging behind with low fps.

Edit: At a less power hungry OC at 3.7GHz (stock voltage), it went from 72 to 104fps avg. On both cases min values at start seem lower, though. It was usually about ~29-34, now it's 19-23fps.
Settings were always the game's default (the settings as AC will recreate if you delete your own video.ini in the Documents folder) + vsynch and 60fps cap for gameplay.

Although it's true about AMD drivers being heavier on CPU, I ran benchmarks only one time with each settings. As you can see in results from this post there's 2% difference between the first bench and the next one. Not suggesting anything like that there's no difference between AMD and nV, just saying that I did them one time and it would be best to do at least two times (preferably 3) to get the average.

    hey AlleyViper!!!

as promised, I'm back with a result too. Now I don't have the full details here now since I @my laptop, but went from 16k score to 21k score from previous version to v1.8. Its completely NUTS in this v1.8, I'm for the first time able to enjoy fluid 60FPS since the first second of the race (actually, the first few seconds have been always very heavy on my PC and it stuttered a lot). My mind was blown away, now I got an avg. fps of 130 and both average and minimum FPS got increased by 20-30FPS with the same settings as before (actually, everything cranked up except the reflections).

finally we have the optimization for old CPUs we've been looking for! Happy racing! ;)

Great to see your GTX970 coming alive too!

It's almost the same here, for grid starts and T1/T2 are much more fluid against AI. In the worst case scenarios when starting from the back in a near-all different cars 16 grid, it's still in the mid 50's range instead of dropping to 40's or high 30's in Barcelona.
The same performance boost can be seen on Nords Tourist servers when there are >24 players. Before it'd drop to ~43-52 when cruising the track, now it's nearly at 60fps all the time, except for some ~55 dips when crossing the parking lot. I still get a few occasional physics late frames due to my slower CPU (now it shows on the render stats, it's not needed to look at the log.txt), but at least my (also aging) GPU has much better use. Next month I'll be able to test on the slower PhII at 3.6GHz (with also much lower RAM speed, and a bit less NB than the sig one) and a HD7870 from were the benchmarks came in our previous discussion.

Only downside graphics wise I notice in this patch, it's a shadow pop on trees at long distance that seems a bit more noticeable in tracks like Spa (placebo?). Some users also complained about some ugly shadow pattern/crawling at much closer distance than I see at High, but they all had NV cards.
    Enjoy!

From 65 to 75 fps with this change alone. 15% jump.

Why can't Kunos just incorporate this filter as OEM if it performs and looks better.

The 970 is a great card for 4k racing! (368.69 Driver, the newest driver looses 30% FPS on 970/980).
