Thought I was Ruined for VR

About two years ago I dove into VR with an HP Reverb G2 and then several months later a Varjo Aero. Built a new PC with 13900K/RTX4090 and was all in. Recently took delivery of a Big Screen Beyond and although the tech is amazing, I started to rethink my setup. Sent back the BSB and with that money bought a new LG 39” Curved Screen OLED Monitor.

Wow. I can run ACC with everything on Epic (144fps +-) and with GSync and 240Hz plus the amazing colors on the new monitor this is like sim racing nirvana. I can see myself racing in ACC for years to come on my current box. VR was good. This is better.

    Amen, brother!
Went through the same few years long uphill battle before trying out Samsung Odyssey G9 49". Bought it on a whim as it was on sale, added TrackIR and never looked back, actually tried to get back to VR few times, but drop in image quality, discomfort, general inconvenience, as well as never ending tinkering just didn't work for me anymore. Prefer spending that little free time I have actually racing at all out maxed settings, enjoying full visual glory of this sim at 100+ fps and HDR.
This gen VR is dead no deal, not sure what future brings, concept is great but we need more than a cool concept to make it full consumer friendly product. Otherwise it's just following phasing out path of 3D TVs.

never going back to screens again unless I get a 49" Ultra Wide. I have the g2 now and I LOVE it and cant race on flat screens anymore.

Tried VR with Oculus a few years back.

Immersion was great but the general discomfort and lower IQ pushed me back to flat screen. Have a 34 inch curved ROG FALD LCD monitor ,and Track IR, for a couple of years, it’s great and I don’t see myself trying VR again unless there’s some great leap in technology.

Just sold my RTX 4090 in preparation for the 5090 and also ordered the Meganex 8K (Micro OLED + Pancake). I want to be able to experience every bit of the new AC Evo interiors. And as amazing as my curved screen OLED monitor is I must admit, nothing beats VR when it comes to awareness on the track. Q1 ‘25 should be amazing. And expensive. Here we go again
