1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Do Super-Cars Really Understeer This Much?

I think a lot has to do with the rather poor sense of speed in AC, and lack of detail / motion in certain areas. Going through a hard turn at 50 mph feels a lot faster in real life than it does in AC. I think this is one area where they need to improve things. FoV settings wont fix it.

sense of speed in video comes from fov ,motion blur, and the speed itself of course... unless you expect AC to shake your chair and push you out of it in corners, stop thinking the game has some mysterious problem that no one understands.
Also you don't really know if you are at 200 or 210 kph in real life too, the thing that gives me the best consistency in cornering speed is remembering the rpm and of course always using the same gear for each corner. Not talking about rpm in number but rather the "basic app" rpm meter.

Sense of speed also comes from texture definition and visual cues. Why does pcars look faster than AC? Closely examine the track side textures. Its not mysterious, but I'm definitely not going to get into a online debate about a virtual racing simulation played on a 24" monitor, just saying there is room for improvement, agree or disagree doesn't matter to me.

for my experience even IRL on track is kinda easy to loose the sense of speed.. maybe it's because spaces are wider and there isn't all that vertical stuff in yor peripherical views..

in Ac try joux plane and you'll feel speed in totally different way

And for my experience, yes street cars with street tyres feels very out of place on track
    check this:

    and this

this "formula" (called predator's pc010) is like an homebuilt car with 600cc motorbike engine (less than 100hp), no differential, very worn tyres.. and it's almost 6 second faster than a 390hp gt car on street tyres in a 50-second track.

another thing that impacts on sense of speed is fov and screen size: it's periphelical view that gives you most of the awarness, but, expecially with one screen, you only have to move a bit your eyes, while to do the same thing irl you should move the whole head.. To see the a-pillar you should turn your head (and mostly if you're searching for the apex it will be somewhere behind the a-pillar)

and we're lucky it's not yet implemented the worst thing of street car on track: brake fading. with stock equipment you have a couple of laps, then you have to cool down everything

There's a lot of truth in this. Best example I could find was...

Project Cars actually ends up looking quite a lot faster than real life because it adds a ton more detail close to the viewpoint (i.e. the textures on the track and immediate surrounds) than really exists. As to whether this is desirable is a matter of personal taste I guess. Personally, I quite like the feeling of speed or otherwise in AC insofar as driving rapidly in wide open spaces doesn't feel particularly fast in reality.

There is (or at least was) a brilliant real world example of this on the A11 in Cambridgeshire between the M11 and A14. There's a dead straight bit a mile or so long where the sensation of speed is minimal, and some government body had painted some very closely spaced sets of white lines across the road as an experiment to see how they changed driver perception of speed.

    https://maps.google.co.uk/?ll=52.190999,0.300771&spn=0.000628,0.001199&t=h&z=20

Suffice to say, going over those at 80mph immediately changed the sensation from "I'm just driving along, dum-de-dum" to "wheeeeee!".

This is a problem with all sims. AC has the best sense of speed I've played in a sim but it's not enough to scare you off going to fast. It would take a lot of balls to drive the real car like we drive sim cars, you'd **** your pants long before getting the car anywhere near the limits you do in AC.

I'm hoping the Oculus Rift is going to improve the sense of speed when it adds in peripheral vision, but I think until a sim can convince you you're going to die or seriously injure yourself by going too fast the sense of speed is never going to be the same.

    oh that's cool .
I want to make myself clearer - I actually noticed the thing that lets me know I'm at the speed I should be at every corner is memorizing the RPM by sound. I can feel how close I am to the rev limiter from the sound after I'm used to a car, and it gives a very consistent speed for me. I don't think visual sense of speed in real life would give anyone the ability to know if he's doing 150kph or 160kph on a track where he goes from 70 to 250kph for example all the time.

How many times you thought on a highway that you're going 120/130 km's/h and when you looked at the speedometer it indicates 170 km's/h?? S***!!! o_O

fix your fov if sense of speed is lacking 50 to 56 works to get a good sense of speed and good track awareness for me perosonally, despite the calculators and whatnot that insist your should be in the 20s or 30s where it looks like your head is mounted on the steering wheel really? cannot see the track at all or get a good sense of hey i am moving really fast here, but that is "Proper".......

i can pick out by just looking at the screen road movement sidelines i am going 70 80 100 mph here. 50 mph here.

raise your fovs if you cannot tell your speed.

Brace yourselves for the Oculus Rift release; just sayin'.
When you're (b)racing through the Nordschleife in a Radical or 70's Porsche, you almost fear for your life and tense up a lot when going just a bit too fast through corners. And many times you slow down only out of the intense feel of speed. It can flat out scare you. And I LOVE IT!

I sooooo hope they can just get that Rift support released tomorrow! I'm tired of driving in a crosseyed smurf land...

We got a little off topic here but I wonder how weird would if feel to play the oculus rift with input lag? you move your head and there is a delay in the whole world movement, not just a little monitor in front of you... O_O

It's almost like you're high or drunk as a bucket.
I've never even felt slightly ill during my crazy trials with the Rift, but I guess it's fairly failsafe to make weaker stomachs upset. :)
Luckily even my 6950 can manage to push enough framerates in all games so far; I only had input lag in a crazily modded Skyrim with 250+ mods and lighting effects. But after some fiddling that went well too.

Back on topic in regards to the Rift; when you actually sit in the cockpit and have peripheral vision and being able to turn your head for apex and to look in the mirrors etc; your sense of speed is far beyond any kind of screen setup I've yet experienced. Going 100km/h in Joux Plane is scary even though the world scale is wrong in AC; maxing out the Zonda in rFactor or GTR2 @ Imola or wherever is an intense experience.

It helps A LOT with the feel of understeering as you actually feel your speed in a vastly improved way.

I think if there's that kind of lag in the final version the makers would consider it a complete failure. Even the latest prototype rift has supposedly reduced all that substantially by predicting movement as well as using an external camera on top of the motion sensing built into the headset. It has a new OLED display that's supposed to have very little lag.

I just can't get the Lotuses and the Ferraris to seem go fast enough. The speed required to avoid understeer on corner entry and mid-corner seems so slow that it's scarcely competitive. I say "seem" because either these cars push like crazy or I'm going faster than the game is making me think, because I would expect to get understeer in cars like this if I enter a corner too hot, but it sure doesn't feel that way.

I have read complaints about both chronic understeer and an insufficient sensation of speed in AC. I'm not really complaining, I would just like to know (i) if you agree with me and (ii) if so, what setup changes would you make immediately to dial out the understeer in these road cars? I cannot get the Lotus Evora sideways even a little. I don't want to drift it, I just want to feel a little life in the rear end when cornering; right now it plows like nobody's business. I'm pretty sure I can induce a little more oversteer in my RL sports car at speed in sweeping corners at high RPM than the Evora in this sim. I love Lotuses and have been fortunate to own one; they are renowned for their grip and flexible suspensions yet in AC all this appears to be negated by understeer. Help much appreciated.

I think there is a tad too much understeer in some of the cars, but lotus is never going to be driven like a ferrari anyway. ferraris generally require early tail breaking making sure the car is settled in and stable and getting on the throttle asap.

Lotus i have no clue how to drive one but mid engined rwd driving techniques do not transfer to them at all far as i can tell because i find lotuses untolerable due to the understeer. people that drive lotuses well can put down some amazing laps but they have to know and drive specifically to how those cars are meant to be driven.

    I loathe them in general.

Also of note is for w/e reason they deicided to bottom out the camber for the italia super race making the thing understeer like a pig on roller skates. get to back tup to -1.2 to -1.5 and it improves that greatly.

I'm in the same boat sadly.
I find the lotuses not that enjoyable to drive due to the mad understeer.
Perhaps i have yet to discover how to drive them or perhaps its Setup related, but i'm struggling with them in general.
Really want to like them but i just have such a hard time driving them.

So far, I've driven the Formula Abarth and the BMW M3, really like them both because I can get them to flex a little in corners. To me, the Lotuses and the Ferraris understeer so badly that I can't imagine driving them much more unless either the devs change it or I can learn what to do in the setup options to dial the undesteer out and stop all the pushing. I generally trail-brake a lot so I'm going to try it in the Ferrari. I'm sad about this because sports cars (as opposed to open wheelers or high-performance coupes) are my first love.
