1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Do Super-Cars Really Understeer This Much?

I've driven a real 430 at Silverstone and while not a 458 it had amazing turn in abilities - far better than a Vantage. I was scraping the front spoiler through Stowe corner in the real Ferrari road car.

After reading your posts i wonder if you have driving licence...

Also, you can't compare or analyse a car handling based on what you saw on Youtube...

Exactly. The crazy next door neighbor who's totally committed to convince you to join her in all kinds of crazy fun. Which you tend to do, because her personality is just so lovable.
The supermodel with nice personality, who your parents are crazy about and want you to marry, is absolutely gorgeous and likable...

...But in the end, oh so boring compared to that crazy *** girl next door... :D

Hey guys I just wanted to offer my input. Driving with a controller with low speed sensitivity has shown me to eliminate understeer dont turn the wheel as far as you would any other car. The 458 requires less turning of the wheel than other cars to negotiate corners. I think it all comes down to a matter of setup.

Please explain what you are on about?

I drive Porsche's for a career and race both RWD and FWD cars as a hobby. I have a fair understanding of how cars handle.

In bold: This also goes for a steeringwheel in general. Don't steer too much, if understeer occurs, steer less into the bend(just lik in real life which sounds a bit odd but it's for real. Keep the steeringwheel 'relaxed' in your hands: don't push too much. Smoothness in steering PLUS throttle(steering) is key in this sim imo.

    Cheers

Few mph here and there probably explains some of the understeer vs real life, you are overdriving the car to a varying degree your going to scrub off speed via understeer, versus real life where your sense of speed is accurrate as can be your fov is always set properly and your set is adjusted to your driving position. you going to hit your target speed for each corner near spot on each time given practice and feel of the car.

If your making a corner but understeering, next time through try breaking a half fraction earlier, scrub off a few mph more and take the turn i bet the car starts turning more like the car you expect and you can get on the power earlier out of the apex because your not scrubbing your tires around looking for grip on entry.

This is my real life experience as well. I own an M3, which can be provoked to oversteer but if I turn into a corner too fast understeer will rear its head. Perhaps some AC cars understeer a little too easily on turn in but overall the handling feel, in total, replicates my real life track experience better than any other sim.

Since im driving this with gamepad atm (yes yes im getting wheel/pedals - again) it is of course incredible easy to get understeer since i cant feel the force. Thats why i think many believe its massive understeer becuase their FFB might not be set properly or absent completely. Looking at the speed is hard when pushing as well so its something you have to learn by practising a lot if you dont have FFB.

I do agree with many people here though about AC having too much understeer when going slow. Sometimes i just crawl through a corner and my front tyres screech and im loosing traction with them. I havent driven any performance car either but i cant imagine they would understeer that much at low speeds.

Cant wait til i get FFB again... :)

The thing with a gamepad is your tyring to control 900 degrees of wheel rotation in about 1cm of stick travel. Your most likely using way too much lock to turn in which would cause your understeer, with a properly setup wheel it feels quite similar to cars I have driven though not supercars but some fairly quick street and race cars.

Its good that AC supports pads and such to get more people interested in sim racing but I cant imagine trying to drive anything precisely with one. You really need very smooth linear steering and thats just not physically possible with a pad unless there is built in steering assistance as youd find for console racers that are built for majority pad use.

Probably why they havent made a real car with a gamepad instead of a wheel and peddles yet ;)

    Lol true. :)

AC have excellent settings for smoothening out the movement so you can drive surprisingly well with a gamepad. However as i said, not feeling the counter force makes it hard to know where the limit it. Kunos have added vibration to pads as you steer and i wish it was a bit better: it seems to vibrate at all times when steering - even when standing still when it should start to vibrate when the car is about to loose grip.

I wouldnt have to sell my setup if i didnt loose my job. But here i am, and i cant stay away from AC, so for now until i can affod proper gear again, gamepad it is. :D

Indeed. I haven't driven one. So all I have to go by are videos, how the car looks to behave at different speeds and how the drivers inputs tell the story.

How else could I compare it? :)

Thanks for keeping me amused though.

I had understeer until I set wheel angle degrees to the same in both the game and the control interface for my wheel. Once they matched, no more understeer. The cars perform like I would expect these cars to perform now. Check your settings in your controller interface and in-game and make sure they match.

Tested the 458 shortly for some saturday night drive on Mugello and realised a extrem understeer behaviour. Of course a car with a relative light front can't be driven by the steering input only and requires throttle steering as well and the more the standard setup is worse for such a car, but after a few random clicks itself transformed the car finally in a Ferrari or rather a high performance
series vehicle. I think the rest contributes the differential to it but unfortunately I can not really influence that. I will switch through the gradual TC steps at the next opportunity, provided that there are some, 've not really tested in detail but i already come to the conclusion that it is a wonderful car with it's personal character.

Here are a few quotes on the 458 from Autocar during their extensive road and track test:

"Trail the brakes adeptly on turn in and the 458 tucks its nose quickly. To turn in under power near the limit risks understeer, as does keeping the brakes too heavily pinned."
"Enter a corner understeering and you'll be fighting it awhile. At lower speeds it can be powered through but faster corners require backing off properly. A deftly executed corner entry is the key to getting the best from the chassis"
"Get the 458's front set, though, and it can be leaned on at will, before the rear breaks away under power."

Now I think that actually sounds quite a bit like Assetto Corsa's 458....

I find that it's not exactly "smoothness" that everyone's saying. Yeah that's a factor, but the problem all comes with weight transfer. If you're driving straight and then yank the wheel to the right, all your momentum is still going forward causing you to understeer. It happens in real life too. I've always countered this by giving a little sway opposite of the corner. Turning right? Transfer your weight to the left side by turning left very slightly before turn in, then turn in, catch the car with the slightest of counter steer and ride out the corner. Maybe it's just a drifters solution and I'm completely wrong, but it feels like it solves this problem with almost all the cars for me.

I've done a pretty decent amount of professional instructing for supercar experience days and having driven and ridden in F430s with good and bad drivers, the 458 seems to hit all the right marks with how a modern Ferrari handles. If you don't treat it just so -> understeer. Get your footwork right and it's a dream.
