1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Talk about that AI

I can say one thing - if you cant enjoy races with AI then your hands growing from your a$$.
Duel with "terrible" AI. And I have alot videos like that on Nords. Not just duels but different road cars, behaving much more better than most HI drivers.

  2. To be fair that wasn't much of a duel...only two passing attempts were made the entire two laps, the rest was just the AI car lapping normally up front. The AI inarguably becomes more problematic when you have an actual race. The issue isn't the actual driving of the AI (for the most part - not many sims have gotten that wrong) but their racecraft...they don't pass when given an open opportunity, but then make an attempt at the next corner, it doesn't make sense...and that's ignoring the issues with cars slowing down (on track) because of the cars in the pits along with the other things people have mentioned. That's not to say that the thread title or piano player's posts are justified, because they're not (they're ridiculous), but there are definitely issues with the AI.

  3. I struggle to enjoy races with the AI drivers. They are simply too predictable, and sometimes react in very stupid ways.....braking hard for no reason whatsoever when I am passing them on the approach to a corner, running very wide for no apparent reason (Luffield at Silverstone is a good example), swinging out rather violently from behind another car but then not bothering to try and overtake, and the "train" effect that is still an issue to some degree. I appreciate that coding AI routines is probably the most difficult part of a race simulation, but it looks like the AI drivers are too similar to each other. I don't know how AI routines are programmed, but it seems to me that lots of small variations and random "fluctuations" (for want of a better term) need to be introduced into the code to make each AI driver more unpredictable when they are close together. Now, I know that this would not be as easy as it sounds, but it does seem to be the crux of the issue as far as I can see.

The AI is not perfect, but I had a lot very nice fights against AI Cars, side by side. I use the App HeliCorsa (little Radar), that app helps much to know where the AI Car is around me.

Before update 1.2... was the AI realy a pain but a bigger pain were the HIs in online races for me, most time horrible drivers.
Most Problem I have with AI are on mod tracks not with the original tracks, not perfect but good to race against with a lot fun.

I saw many times mistakes by AI Cars, also the stupid line up in my back or my own mistakes against AI Cars shown in the replay.
Most time I use 90% strength for open wheelers, 94-96% strength with GT cars.

well since they are using 'hand of god' artificial force helping them keep car under control it is not exactly true, is it ? .. no issue with that ... biggest 2 issues of ACs AI right know is they are pussies .. any hint of players cars and they are "oh sorry I don`t wanna get in your way" and let you pass .. and 2nd is known inablility to pass slower car ... other than that they need to be faster at 100% and than it is just fine

do you have time tommorow between 9 and 10 AM CET+2 or if my son weaks up we will postpone the start for a while ...... not always that easy :) I like to race online but most of the time my schedule is not giving me other options than AI or solo

  6. The AI has been improved significantly since 1.0. Specifically, it is now much better at avoiding the player, and I rarely finish the race with any damage that wasn't my own fault.

The AI does best when it is behind the wheel of lots of different vehicles of the same class. For example, if you have a race with every member of the sportscar class, you'll have a good time. Cars like the M3, Mustang and Exige are all similar in overall performance, but excel in different areas. This leads to interesting fights with and between the AI competitors. But it is by far the least interesting in single-model races, where the equal performance causes the AI to form a train.

I'd also like to see an AI aggression slider which determines at what point the AI will attempt to overtake. For races with cars like the Alfa Romeo GTA and low-end touring cars, I basically want a destruction derby.

The main thing I'd like to see from the AI, as many others evidently would, is more pace but less consistency. The chance of the AI making mistakes and over-committing, for example. I'd also like to see them take more varied strategies with tires and pits, as right now there is no variation when it comes to tires, which is frustrating with classes like GTE when there are many compounds available.

And I would like to see it being faster overall with classic cars. The Escort Mk1 is probably my favorite car to drive, but the AI is so slow in it and other floppy classic cars. And it is dismally slow in the 962, which is strange since to me it drives like a GT car, which the AI has no problems with.

After the latest VR & AI update i have been playing R3E this weekend and what a difference with the AI in Assetto Corsa.

I see AI weaving, overtaking each other, defending, cutting back and re-overtaking me, going for the gap, taking different lines on the track and making small and big mistakes.

That's what i would love to see in Assetto Corsa.

Maybe it was a mistake of Stefano trying to make the AI behave like real humans and using the player physics instead of fake ones.
Still, it is accepable for me, if you respect it like a human player.

I cant blame him for trying for the best to be honest.

The AI is the biggest weak-point in AC. Go in front, slow down a little bit and the AI will stay behind you and won't even try to overtake. I never knew how bad things are (always drove online) until I started a few special events.
On modded tracks the AI becomes totally useless.

I find AI works fine if I do things predictably. If I weave around move about deliberately block them, they won't react well.

I don't know the reason why people say AI in AC2 never overtake players because I often get overtaken if I'm a lot slower than them. I think it might be:
    1. Although the AI might be faster it somehow thinks the speed difference won't give an overtake opportunity.
    2. AI don't attempt an overtake on all parts of the track, which I think many people expect AI to do: if you see a gap and don't go for it, you are not a racy AI.
    3. AI treats the player (not moving, moving very slowly, outside track and coming back) as a hazard instead of an overtake-able opponent.

I've spent more and more time racing online, and what I find is that although I can get very competitive qualify laptimes, I'm not good at actual racing. I'm not totally sure which part of the track is suitable for overtaking without risking ramming people, and I'm usually too cautious. Sometime when I do make a move and overtake someone, it's usually due to them who try to avoid me wrecking them so they yield me with room. I start to understand some of my previous unsatisfaction and complaints that I had might be on my side.

    My 2 cents.

i wish they knew how to overtake properly

  13. Is that because they are different car types? If I start a single type race against the AI cars, they have no problems overtaking me if they get the opportunity.

Multiclass race + you are extrem slow. Don't do it.

Previous AI versions overtake without "respect" and many people cry "AI is so ****"... now they wait for possible clean overtake and people also cry

AI isn't "****", its a compromise between performance and intelligence. The more intelligence devs make for AI, the less performance this game have and vice versa.
You can program AI to handle like a human, but then you need a dedicated PC (maybe a cluster) for every AI car ;)

ai that doesn't overtake might as well be no ai at all

Additionally you need a rating system, exclude the worst human-AI drivers and get some better performance for this forum as you wil have hundreds of posts in the "Bored of AI racing" thread

Turn up their aggressiveness to max and they will overtake on the outside of corners, and pull high risk maneuvers. I found best setting was one less than max aggression for more true to real life overtaking and it was better than the "real life" aggression setting in game.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with you there. There is no reason why AI should be any worse on a mod track than a Kunos one o_O

I'd already be happier if the AI could deal with slower cars (not just in multiclass races) like cars coming out of the pits or on their outlap, flags (not blocking overlapping cars, not speeding through zones with yellow flag and potentially crash while any human driver slowing down probably loses the race), tyre wear (some form of pit strategies instead of driving with no regard to wear until they need to pit for fuel), had varying aggressiveness and approaches to setups and made a few more traction mistakes here and there.

Really, it's not like you can't have fun racing with the AI and a lot of times people exaggerate when talking about frustrating issues. There's also no need to insult the developers, if you can do it better let the result of your work talk. But clearly the work is cut out for Kunos, there's plenty to do.
