1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Generic Weekly Hotlap Challenge 160 – A muddle of models

Discussion in 'Console Lounge' started by Totall Wrytoff, Jan 4, 2020.

  1. Welcome to W.H.C. 160, the first Weekly Hotlap Challenge thread of the Twenty Twenties!

    Challenge
    Hotlap:
    Car: BMW M3 E30 Step 1
    Track: Mugello
    upload_2020-1-4_18-1-19.png
    upload_2020-1-4_18-1-27.png
We’re off to Tuscany for this first WHC of the new decade, the twenty twenties.
The obvious choice for this combi would be the 20th car (alphabetically, the Audi Quattro,) and track number twenty, the Nordschleife, but that’s one of the Special Event challenges, erm and we’ve had the Nordschleife fairly recently?
The BMW M3 E30 Step 1 is a WHC virgin, has a mouthful of a name and it’s a curious car. The E30 M3 was BMW’s base road car from which the various model versions required for homologation were produced, in a limited run. These “specials” varied in their level of alteration, from simply wider wheel arches, for example, to accommodate DTM brakes and ducting, to a full weight reduction treatment, aero body parts and uprated power and transmission units.
So the car we have in the game is one on a run of 600 E30 M3 cars produced in 1987 (or 1990) by BMW to homologate the M3 for the 1988 Group A Touring Car season. First thing, the answer is yes! It does have more power. But not much. Despite the figures quoted by AC, the first, standard E30s in 1985 produced around 200hp and the first factory tune-up, (ie the Step 1?) using BMW’s S14 two litre, four cylinder engine took the power to 220hp, which is what I think we have here. The car also has non-adjustable aftermarket dampers and lowered springs. In 1990, BMW produced their final factory tuned car. Displacement of the S 14 engine was increased to 2.5 litres and power was up by 18hp to 238, according to BMW.
    upload_2020-1-4_18-2-9.png
M3 engine bays, M-Sport is on the right.
    https://www.bmw-m.com/en/topics/magazine-article-pool/bmw-m3-e30-portraet.html

But basically we are driving an E30 M3, the world's most successful road race car and it is sweet. You’ll find the extra 20 or 38 horses precisely between 6,750rpm and 7,000rpm, where there’s a very short lived but definite V-TEC like moment, right before you have to shift up. Like the standard car you’ll enjoy the rewarding manual gearbox, fantastic balance and handling, sharp turn in, satisfying thrust and race car-like pops and bangs from the exhaust.

Tuscany is one of the most wonderful places in the world, Mugello is one of our favourite circuits and this has to be the world’s best track for corner names. Tactically and alliteratively, maintaining momentum in the M3 at Mugello will be the key task. You’ll hook 5th gear towards the end of the straight, get the braking right into San Donato and the car turns in nicely. The run from Luco to Arrabbiata 1, in mostly 3rd gear, shows off the balance of the chassis and from then on, it is about the flow, holding 4th and keeping as much speed as possible, up and down to Correntaio. Bucine is obviously critical; I presume one could lose hours down the straight with a slow exit from this corner.
    upload_2020-1-4_18-2-41.png
Three types of tyre are available, and maybe a decision required for your fast laps. Street or Semislicks? But I would urge to try your first few laps using the Street 90s. They deliver a much slower lap, but you can feel that they were what the engineers tuned the chassis for. In your interest, I ran an unscientific test, a lap with each set, completely stock set-up, but with correct tyre pressures:
    Street 90s – 2:26.538
Street – 2:21.638 - I made a mistake at Bucine and ran a touch wide
Semislicks – 2:21.007 - I felt I was trying harder with the Semislicks!

    Recommended pressures are:
….38psi front and back for both Street tyres
….31 psi all round for the Semislicks

RSR: 2:16.612 is the best time, 2:20.4 or less gets you into the top ten. I think 2:16 is beatable by our best, and don’t forget WHC practice makes perfect!

    Sii veloce e divertiti!

Couldn't resist having a little go at this magnificent combo! Lowered fuel and removed all the aero, 2 laps in and realised the PSI was wayyyy over, so had a go at correcting that and started again. 3 laps to get comfortable, just got it into the 16's which will do for today :)

I think I've reached my limit today. Very fun. I've never been great at Mugello. It does have a unique flow, which I do somewhat fall into after a dozen laps. What trips me up is not knowing what the fastest line is for a few corners and when I try to push the brake marker or try to do something different, it just doesnt seem to work. There are quite a few corners that have a very specific way of approaching and trail braking. I just haven't quite figured them out in the short time I put forth here today. I know I'm not finding the absolute limit of the car at all times for every corner, which is very frustrating. As most other things in life, sim racing especially, takes time to figure out. The more time you put in, the more you get out of it. One day when I'm older, like most of the gents here, when I'm settled down, accomplished a few things and successful, I'll finally have the time to put into this hobby. I digress...

Just time for a quick run out. On the Semislicks and still need to sort tyre pressures, so presumably, like @LeiF , 3 or 4 more laps should yield a second...or two?

I used the aero settings that @LieF used and the recommended tire pressures for the Semislicks. It is a very easy and satisfying car to drive and I love how it is a stick shift.

  15. To those that play on PC:

On the PS4, so probably applying to all consoles, the "lowest" setting for front toe is + 0.03.
I would like to try -0.05 to -0.10 but this range is not an option.

Does the PC set-up options allow a negative front toe?

    If so, that's unfair!:D

EDIT: It's a level playing field then, no excuses.:)
    Thanks for confirming @Biner

    Observations on the warm-up:

** The RSR best time is 2.16.612….we can do it!**
** We are all (very, very nearly) within the RSR Top Ten ranked lap times ;)**
** We (mostly) all know we have another 12/10ths available out on track **
** We know, deep inside, that practice makes perfect!:) **
