1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Anyone who buys a manual car when a dual clutch option is available is seriously stuck in the past.

Now if they could please stop putting the + towards the console on semi-auto type boxes !!!

  2. I googled "dual clutch", and it appears to be some kind of automatic transmission. The question is....what makes this so interesting when compared to a manual gearbox? This is a genuine question, as I am not an expert on these things.

  5. Guys wasn't this supposed to be a thread about the news regarding Assetto Corsa's releases and announcements? (not to mention the "Facebook" source in thread title...). How does this "manual vs automatic/semi-auto/whatever-auto gearbox" fit into the purpose of this thread? If you feel the need of chit-chatting about this topic open a dedicated thread without flooding this one please (as you should, by the rules). Thanks

A Dual clutch transmission is basically a manual transmission operated by actuators for gear selection and clutch operation ( It's an evolution of a robotized transmission). The innovation is the fact that it can be considered as two gearbox joined together:
    one for even gears and one for odd each with it's own clutch;
    example:
Gear 1 engaged and odd clutch engaged- Gear 2 engaged and even clutch open > gear 1 is selected; when the ecu or the driver decides to change gear the odd clutch is opened and the even is engaged giving an almost instantaneus gear change with virtually no torque interruption to the wheels thanks to clutch slipping.
When Gear 2 is engaged the ecu pre select Gear 3 on the odd shaft and so on...

Your traditional automatic is really 2 changes from a manual car - on the gearing end it uses planetary gears instead of a pair of shafts (shifted purely with clutch packs, no synchros to break), and on the clutch end it uses a torque converter, which is forgiving of bang shifting but also eats a pretty big chunk of your power.

Dual clutch is more similar to the manual, except of course there's 2 clutches - one for even, one for odd numbered gears. So instead of having to go clutch in, unselect gear, select gear, clutch out, the computer can select 2 gears at once, and clutch out one while it clutches in the other. The overlap means essentially immediate shifts (as fast as it takes the engine to match rpms)

Traditional sequential shifters are also pretty much immediate, but not as popular cause they chatter and are just generally less smooth than clutch shifts.

The 2012+ Ford Focus is available with a dual clutch. I remember my wife went from a 2000 Focus auto to a 2012, and I was blown away by the new auto 6-speed. I didn't know it was a dual-clutch at the time, just thought "wow!" Especially with the Select-Shift, it worked great. Very sporty. Then one day I was back in the shop and noticed that our transmission guy had one apart. He noticed me do a double-take, then said "yeah boy, this here's an automatic manual."

It's a great transmission IMO, shifts crisp and immediate... however, it does not shift like a regular automatic. We have had sooo many complaints about that transmission. People are used to slush-box autos that are noticeably smoother, but have some lag. And sometimes, the "robot" that determines when to shift second-guesses itself, usually when creeping along at slow speed. This occasionally causes a weird hesitation, lurch, or abrupt shift. The customer brings their car in swearing there's something wrong. Ford has tried to fix it by reprogramming the computers, assuring customers with extra warranty on the transmission etc. Good car has a bad reputation now. Oh, my fellow Americans...

Marco will probably buy one after the console release, I can feel it :)

  13. Built to order cars. It really doesn't exist. Your getting something that is in inventory, somewhere. If the specific color, and options combo is available at your dealer, you get it. If not, and it is available at another dealer a state or couple states away, hopefully that dealer will let it go to the dealership you are working with. If not, and you still have to have the particular combo you want, your gonna be waiting for quite some time. 6 months+ probably.

So much no. Dual clutch is faster no doubt. Stick shift is much more enjoyable for many of us. Not for you? Fine. But I'm certainly not stuck in the past having some nostalgia for the stick shift. I enjoy it more. Simple as that.

Possibly because most Corvette's are ordered with automatics. I just saw a stat recently and I believe it was something like only ~20-25% of all Corvettes are ordered with a manual transmission, which is sacrilege for what's supposed to be a sports car. But, at least in my part of the country, most people buy them as more of a status symbol than a track toy. I literally see some model of Vette almost every time I leave my house, and more times than not they're being driven (slowly) by an old white guy or his wife. So maybe they just presumed Z06 buyers would follow the same trend.

    So much truth.

And for me please. Unsynchronized gearbox and wooden steering wheel all the things!! :D

Supposed to be yea. But it's turned into a sort of general chat thread in between actual news announcements.

Which is fine. Good to have a general community chat area.

You can still have all the driver aids with a manual transmission. The only real issue is downshifting but even there we have the driver aid of a rev matching system that has appeared in many cars.

The automatic transmission in the Corvette is very nicely done but it is not on a level with a Best in Class DCT. That is particularly the case if you want to use the paddles to shift and not just leave it in auto mode. In auto mode it is probably fine but the actual shift paddles operate slower then the best dual clutch Transmissions.

The whole Z06 overheats, cooling is insufficient, regardless of the transmission, they are fixing it now from what I've heard, even the Gran Sport has better cooling.Even with these little niggles, they are very impressive machines, they might be "brute"-ish in their application, but they work so well, same thing with the Viper ACR, while I'm a Porsche guy myself and usually like the subtle side of things, american sport cars have really picked my interested in the last few years.Oh yes, there's only one thing better than the Z06, the CTS-V :D.
