1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Generic Weekly Hotlap Challenge 186 – Let’s peg it with chalk and cheese!

Discussion in 'Console Lounge' started by Totall Wrytoff, Jul 4, 2020.

  1. Welcome to the Weekly Hotlap Challenge 186 – Let’s peg it with chalk and cheese! Featuring Assetto Corsa and Competizione challenges.

    Assetto Corsa Challenge: Hotlap
    Car: Ford Escort RS1600
    Track: Brands Hatch
    upload_2020-7-4_17-52-10.png

Assetto Corsa Competizione Challenge: Hotstint – 10 Minutes
Car: McLaren 720S GT3 (2019 Series or Intercontinental Challenge)
    Track: Paul Ricard Circuit
    *Time: 8:00 and x 1 progression
    *Weather: Cloudy
    upload_2020-7-4_17-52-47.png
    * This should give an Ambient Temp of 22 C and Track temp of 27 C.
Please see notes on how to play and please check the conditions and posting requirements below.
    ----------------------------------------

The two cars this week are as different as chalk and cheese.

The choice for this week’s Assetto Corsa Challenge was awarded to GoodGame’s Driver of The Week in WHC 182 – Peggy11. Thanks to him. It looks great and is rather an auspicious choice.
The Ford Escort RS1600 was the car I chose for WHC103, my first ever WHC thread on taking over from Hugo.
An Escort 1600 was also Lady TW’s first car!
So driving the RS1600 Escort around the full Brands Hatch is Peggy’s 11th heaven. Having tested it on behalf of the WHC, it is very close to nirvana!
Thanks to @Peggy11. Hope you get time to join in!

I had forgotten this, but this challenge is also featured in Special Events. When I went to test I found a set-up called “Gold.” This must have been from my very early days in 2017 - when I had no idea what I was doing. I loaded it and did a lap or two. It felt awful. After a reset to default I instantly went two secs faster. All that time spent sweating for a gold, having seriously handicapped the car!
    It’s best not to fiddle!
    upload_2020-7-4_17-53-29.png
Like the E30 BM, the Ford is shockingly noisy inside!
The very good reason for that is the absolute peach of an engine. It is a highly tuned Cosworth FVA Formula 2 Ford 1598cc screamer - 16 valves with twin overhead camshafts producing a claimed 218–225 bhp at a mechanically unfriendly sounding 9000 rpm.
Is this engine the best in the game?
I was changing up at about 5000, and that still sounds more cruel than reasonable! That further 4000 rpm takes some willpower, I tell you! But the car, in default set-up is just delightful. Even a heavy trottered, ham-fister like me is able to set-up delicate little 4-wheel drifts through Hawthornes and Westfield. Sitting high in the seat, steering rim against the chest with a quarter turn of oppo, front wheel pawing the air….

Go carefully though… the 1968 ex-Alan Mann Racing, Jackie Oliver car, our car, was sold by Bonhams recently for a whopping £203,100!
    £200k! For a Ford Escort.

    upload_2020-7-4_17-53-48.png
The last time we used Brands Hatch, in WHC174, I wrote this:
    “June 23rd!
The date Assetto Corsa Competizione comes out on consoles…”

Here we are, ACC week two! Bring it on.
The choice for this week’s Competizione challenge is down to me, but it is fair to say that I’ve been heavily influenced by @Lewisxbone and @Graveltrap. Thanks to them both for the input.

We are going to try the HOTSTINT format.
Select Hotstint, 10 minutes, 8:00am and x 1 time progression. This will equate to between 4 and 6 laps… hedging my bets.
Your result will be a total time (ie: 10 mins plus whatever it takes you to finish the lap you are on as the clock goes to zero) and the total number of laps.
For example, my test was 10 mins 11 something seconds and 5 Laps.
If you cut a kerb or try to pull a fast one, penalty time is added by the game.
In testing, straight-lining Turn 1 earned me a 3 second penalty. I might have gained about half that.

Please see the screen shot example below and the posting instructions. If you don’t read this and ask lots of questions, I won’t get annoyed this week either.

Hotstint is about consistency. As the circuit is new to most of us, I suspect we’ll get faster and faster as we work it out, but watch out towards the end of the session. The tyres seem to go off and that corner where, last lap, you tipped it in and gave it the beans, now doesn’t feel the same at all and suddenly you are running wide or in a slide!
    upload_2020-7-4_17-54-24.png
    The McLaren 720S GT3.
With its sad face, it is a sad beast indeed.
A brilliant car, shockingly and brutally neutered.

If this car were a dog, its ears would be down, its tail hanging limply between its legs and sad, sad eyes would be looking up at you. Imploringly.
You would feel more guilty than Hitler and the whole of the FIA would be in prison for animal cruelty.
The poor thing is strangled and starved of its essential nutrients.
If only we had the road car.
I’ve heard it is utterly mind-scrambling. The GT3 car, in a race with its road going brother on an open duel carriage way, would get only a fleeting glimpse of the road car before it disappeared like a missile, into the far distance.
In the 1970s they put a race car engine in a road car. Proper chaps.
Now they halve the power of the road car for a race car. Snowflakes.
It is the opposite of exciting and in fact, immediately boring.
“We don’t want them going too fast…” That is just not a racing ethic.

Driving down, or up, the never ending Ligne Droit Du Mistral it is sad to see a gain of 15-20mph after what feels like an hour, with your foot flat to the floor. My little family hatch is much quicker from 120 to 150mph….
    Whatever.
And don’t get me wrong. It isn’t a bad car at all. One of the best in the game. It is good. For a GT3 car.

It sounds great-ish. It feels every different from the Audi/ Lexus etc etc GT3 brigade. The turn in and grip are juicy good. You have to be an animal to unstick it, and unlike some, it is gatherable. You can feel that the car’s dynamics are simply delicious.
If only we had the road car. (And free tyres for life.)

However the Paul Ricard Circuit features some turns that have you winding and winding on the lock, regretting that fast and loose approach into what seemed like an open sweeper! I’m never quite sure how to take these corners. You are meant to brake in a straight line…. Double Droite!
    upload_2020-7-4_17-54-46.png

    Tyres and Times?

    For Assetto Corsa:
Recommended hot tyre pressure for the Vintage GT70 tyre is 37 psi all round.
The current RSR page for the Escort at Brands is confusing.
In alarm, I contacted GoodGame to ask what on earth is going on. He has kindly pointed out that most of the times you see on the page were set on slick tyres, not the GT70 tyre. The slick tyres have been now phased out in an update. As you can imagine, this makes an enormous difference to the times and really, RSR should update the table.
So the time to aim at is a 1:41.407 and it was set by GoodGame. The universe is as it should be.

    For Assetto Corsa Competizione:
Go fast for 5 or so laps. No mistakes!
The fastest will be getting 6 laps...
Recommended tyre pressure is around 27.5 psi (hot.) Since we are charting a new corsa, (the last week for that pun) please experiment and share.

For those intending to enter both events, just a quick suggestion; you may find it easier to transition from the, err, grip offered by Ford to that of the McLaren, rather than the other way around…..

Several sets of laps to get this.
Tyres, for console players, are 30 left and 32 on the right. I shortened the ratios by a click and softened the rear springs by a click.
    And it all clicked.:)
@Laughing Gravy - you and me both, story of my week.
    Tomorrow is another week.

I tried the Paul Ricard circuit for the track medal on Friday night.

I'm using the Jaguar and the helmet camera.

First lap off the pit lane and the turn in to turn 1 is blind.

I miss it completely and go down a different bit of circuit.

I've crashed thousands of times in racing games.

However I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've got lost.

Could so easily have been another Le Mans '55. Everybody was lucky.

I agree with you that it is a very difficult track since it is hard to orientate and there is so much asphalt, that you even don't know what to use. I really wish the kittylitter would be brought back to make a difference visually and reduce the abuse of tracklimits. These days we artificially invent rules to prevent tracklimits, while the solution can be so simple.

I really like that there is the need of consistancy involved. 10min of concentration, trying to go faster and faster without making to many errors is a welcome addition to the WHC!

I wonder if we'll see other players climbing up the ladder just because they are better on multiple laps than just one.

I wouldn't mind seeing more of those stints in future outings. Thanks @Totall Wrytoff for taking this refreshing step :)

I think I will be falling down the ladder @P308R

Paul Ricard has made for some fantastic racing in the Blancpain Endurance series, but it may not be so good for pounding around on my lonesome, we shall see. At least it will give me good opportunity to learn the track better...

Edit: Don’t forget to set your steering to 480 degrees for the Mclaren on Console!

I have overwritten the ingame screen when I wanted to upload a thumbnail for the youtube video. It is quite sad that taking a screen appears to be so hard for me.:mad:
Anyway. The thing with the tyres was pointed out by TW. RSR still features times in their tables where the Escort had slicks. So it can be confusing. Nothing else to say about the Escort - fantastic car!!!!
I use high diff settings and 40 springs @ the front and basically steer the car with throttle input. -2 camber at the front and pretty much low all around.
