The Challenge.
Car: Lotus 98T
Track: Spa





Well as the 2017 F1 season started today, we might as well explore a Turbo F1 car albeit from a very different era! Down force, something to makes the mid boggle, 1000+ BHP, light weight and very fat sticky qualifying spec slicks The grip generated at speed is mind blowing, in the slower stuff that spikey turbo motor will light up those huge slicks with ease...once it gets on boost anyway! Talking of boost, the maximum setting sees the engine slowly destroying itself...You should just about get a lap out of it, maybe two if you are lucky

Spa, some seriously fast stuff here, once the invisible force is understood flat out is the order of the day, it's going to be getting out of the slower corners that will make or break the lap!

Ambient Temp: 26 Degrees
Setup: Free
Controller: Free
Assists: Factory
Stability:Free
Penalties: On <--- Only applicable to Practice mode.

Please make sure you have the ambient temperature set correctly, I really don't like disallowing times!

The Deadline.
Sunday April 2nd - 22:00 BST (GMT+1)

How to take part!
To enter simply head into the game select Drive > Hotlap / Practice choose the Lotus 98T and head to Spa. Make sure you setup the session using the settings detailed in this thread and hit the track!

You can run as many laps as you like and update your times as often as you like, its simple All Platforms are welcome, it is all about having fun and enjoying Assetto Corsa.

To submit a time, pause the game and select 'session' from the menu and screenshot this page or take a photo of your screen and post it in this thread - Note all the information from the screen is required including temperature.


Feel free to post video clips and share information in here as well, but without the session screen your time will not be included (placing the session screen in a video clip is acceptable).

You also need to state the time and your platform in the body of your post, this should be the first thing you do, the image should then be placed below the text. It would also be helpful to mark updated times with Improvement. This makes collating the results much easier.

Oddly enough I spent some time trying to run this car Saturday afternoon and let's just say it didn't end well. So I'm definitely going to need some setup help to try and understand how this one works.

2.29.975 xbox one, only changed tyres to qualifyfing. Best choice of car thus far, it's mental but so rewarding when gotten right. Thanks graveltrap.

BTW default fuel level for me was 195 litres! No point in carrying that much around when the engine is going to last 5 minutes!

I don't think I'll have anymore time tonight to try it again. But I got a lot of issues with it. My prediction is that the winning time will be somewhere in the low to mid 1:50's. Somebody is going to understand how all of this works and turn this thing into a slot car.

First crack at this barely did anything other then Qually slicks and low fuel with 100% turbo. OH ya extended the gears
I'm sure I would be dead as I type this if this was real life.

 

Oh my god, it's the animal! I love this car ... can't drive it, but i love it. A did some hot laps a year ago, but with an older tyre model, so i'll try again next week. I'm sure it will be fun ... or deadly ... or both.

Couldn't resist, had to try it now. I still had my old setup, but i'm sure there's some room for improvements. Engine died right on the finish line after my 2nd lap. Had to shortshift a bit, otherwise i don't think the engine would have survived the lap Just insane that people did this in real life.

 

Now, we're talking. Stand by.

 

Okay, first run with website tune. Have some more in there, but I'm not sure about sub 2:00. Ouch! Man, I wish I had a clutch for this one.

Once I found out you can increase the turbo I wanted to give it one more shot before bedtime. Now I wish I hadn't. I'm so aggravated it's going to be hard to get to sleep. I had several laps over 5 minutes. Once I would spin out I couldn't get going the right way on the track because of the turbo snap. I'm not going to spend a lot of time on this one either. Might give it another go or two using Havanabob's setup then throw in the towel.

 

Just a heads up that the car is different on PC than on consoles. There were some changes in v1.12 and v1.12.1.
So @Graveltrap might want to split the results.

Not sure if it's on V7 or V10 on consoles, but optimal pressure is 28 hot all around for TM V10. Also it has adjustable boost, so remember to change it to 100%. Just don't expect the engine to last too long.

It's been probably a year or even more since I drove it so I'll use WHC as an excuse to finally get back to it.

 

We aren't told much about the console version regarding tyres, so no clue as to what model is being used for the majority of cars! It may well be only Porsche and GT3 stuff that is on V10...

Let's see how the week pans out but splitting the results is not a problem!
