Welcome to the end of the year WHC Party for 2020, Weekly Hotlap Challenge 207 - Christmas party - Insanitised, but socially distanced

Mike Reynolds and I have cooked up a festive menu of Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Assetto Corsa and Assetto Corsa Competizione challenges to run over the next two weeks, but first, you’ve got to get to the party on time!


Get to Lunch on time!
AC and ACC Race Challenges

There are two intro Race challenges to complete before you get to Christmas lunch.

In Assetto Corsa you’ve got the family on board, slow traffic and less than fifteen minutes to get to the party!
In Assetto Corsa Competizione you got serious competition and only five minutes!
All of the details are in “How to Play” below.


Assetto Corsa:
5 Lap Championship Race
Car: Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio vs Abarth 595 SS
Track: Highlands

Around the Highlands there is patchy congestion caused by slow drivers, they don’t use the rear view mirror and seem to drift around across the road. You’ll hit the traffic twice in the five laps, hopefully not literally. With damage set to 100%, even a glancing blow can be terminal. Not to mention the reaction you’d get from the front passenger seat!
Ouch. Tricky party….

Assetto Corsa Competizione:
5 Mins Single Make Quick Race
Car: Porsche 991 II GT3 Cup
Track: Silverstone

At a wet Silverstone, the traffic is moving considerably faster!
This is a “last to 1st challenge” in the rain. Your placement is based on finishing position, number of laps (3 most likely) and overall time.
You’ve only got five minutes to get from 10th to 1st and everyone is driving a Porsche. At least you’ll be alone in the car, provided you’ve switched “Bob” off.

Tyres:
Ideal GT3 operating pressures are around 27.5 psi

This should blow away any fogginess of festive over indulgence.
We’ve only used the Ruf RT12 once before and we all like a Porsche with the wick turned right up! I’ve gone for Midnight Purple but may well try the Lime too. Circuit de Catalunya has a great flow but it’s quite tricky to put a hotlap together. You’ll have fun trying though!
I predict a wide spread of times for this event!

Main Course​

Assetto Corsa:
Hotlap - “The Turkey”
Car: Maserati 250F 12C
Track: Zandvoort

Fangio’s motor.
With the full, twelve cylinders
Therefore, it is one of, if not the most, classic racing car in the game.
This is the Christmas main course! You’ll have to show a bit of restraint here. If you got at it too hard, you’ll regret it later!
Zandvoort is a great track. Undulating and curvy, it feels epic in the Classic F1 car. Apply full throttle with extreme care and only occasionally. The tyres can’t take it. As you would expect of a main course, it is extremely satisfying, so take your time…

Assetto Corsa Competizione:
10 mins Hotstint – “The Ham”
Car: Audi R8 LMS GT4
Track: Misano

Christmas Lights!
You’ll need them! It’s such a long lunch, it has got dark. This is a night time challenge in the GT4 Audi R8. Its 5.2-litre V10 engine offers a healthy 488 bhp and is hooked up to a seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission. Anyone can buy one, for just 198,000 Euros and it is eligible for 27 different racing competitions. The main one though, is ACC Hotstints!
Can you keep it all together in the dark at Misano, for ten minutes?

Ideal GT4 operating pressures are between 26.3- 27.2 psi

Car: Mercedes-Benz C9 1989 LM
Track: Imola

It’s Christmas, so we have to have a Group C.
The “Sauber” Merc, the 917 Porsches and the Mazda 787B are some of the most exciting cars in the game.
Just to refresh and re-whet the appetite, the 905 kg Merc’s 800 bhp comes from a five litre, 90° V8 with Twin KKK Turbochargers, developed by a Swiss engine specialist called Heini Mader, (apparently, as cover for Mercedes Racing involvement.) Happy Christmas to Heini!
Sweet! 800bhp and 905kg means Happy Christmas to us too!

Tyres: Soft, Medium and Hard Slicks 90s - 30 psi (hot) all round, for all compounds
Fastest Lap: 1:36.695 set by Alessandro Pino in 2017


Assetto Corsa Competizione:
Hotlap
Car: FREE CHOICE
Track: Spa

The final course is up to you. Christmas Pudding or Mince Pies? You choose! (I would try both!)
Which is the fastest GT3 racer around Spa? How quickly can you get round? You can check Google, or pick your favourite ACC car on this classic track. It is a free choice and all in for the fastest lap.

*Assetto Corsa Race Challenge*
To enter the 5 Lap Championship Race, in Championship mode, set-up a Championship race - 5 laps at the Highlands Circuit and select your car as the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio against 11 Abarth 595 SS
Please setup the session as shown below:
- Circuit: Highlands
- 5 lap race
- 11 opponents - Abarth 595 SS
- Your Car: Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio
Practice and Qualifying are up to you
Race Set-up:- Opponent Skill Level/ Aggression: Free - Time of day/ Weather/ Track Surface: Free
Ambient Temp: 10 DegC
Penalties: On
Car Setup: - Damage 100% - Fuel use: On - Tyre Wear: On - All else: Free
In console, you must win the race and pit. To get Total Race time, select "Session" from pit lane after the race and wait for all the cars to finish. Once the last driver crosses the line, your lap time on display will change to the total time for your race. Screen grab and post.

To enter the Assetto Corsa Hotlap Challenges, select Hotlap, choose either the RUF RT12 and the Barcelona Moto GP Circuit and/ or the Maserati 250F 12C and the Zandvoort circuit, and /or the Mercedes-Benz C9 1989 LM and the Imola Circuit.

I wish everyone Merry Christmas - thank you for all your great efforts in the hotlap events. While the year 2020 was great in terms of simracing, I hope a few things will go back to normal for us in 2021.

@mike reynolds - AMG for pure speed? or (little more scary) Audi?

Since update and new "yaw angle physics" most setups need some tweaks - they are much more "snappy".
I lowered the rear 2-3mm for example and it was much better.

again @mike reynolds - hope you like my christmas livery more than the lovely cow:

Green - for our beloved Nordmann fir
Red - for the oldschool Christmas baubles
Silver - there used to be more tinsel (German inside joke by Loriot)

I did another Porsche race but it was 0.9s slower. But i saved the replay on my PS4. How can i upload that here?

Quite a bit of weaving required to avoid the traffic.

Considering the speed difference, this was quite a tight gap that required luck, due to lack of judgement!
