i think the m235i was struggling a lot when the track/ambient was colder. dont forget grip changes each time we jump back to Q.

some people were asking about temps and weather settings yesterday. to clear it up, here is an example of what we can do at the moment in AC.

base temp road is how much higher the road temp will be from ambient, i tend to set it lower the more cloud there is. so on a clear weather preset the sun is always shining on the track and i might set 7 or 8 where on a light cloud preset i might set 4 or 5.id also tend to set more variation when there is more cloud (as i understand it, the variation is like the randomness setting for track grip. the preset can deviate from the base setting by however much variation you set.)
i always have a good 4 or 5 presets and alter them from track to track based on guesstimate of the climate there. so for the UK light cloud may be somewhere 12<18 where as Spain light cloud id be tempted to go more 18<22 same with other presets obviously as well. a clear day in the uk maybe 25c at best but Spain more like low to mid 30's. so yeah, thats the way i tend to set the weather presets up. id also set more cloud and fog presets for the UK than i would for Spain or Italy, clear preset in the UK is simcade

oh! also, as summer is coming back around.. i might start doing what i was doing before again and set the weather according to the current temps in that area. it got me a few complaints when winter came around and i gather no one else is too fussed about this but i really like the idea of having the weather tied to real life. it would be a nice feature if the game did it for you as an option. give it a month or so and i might start using local 5 day forecast to set my weather presets again

 

I guess I will need to test this offline, but I was struck by the huge difference in pace after having raced the Exige Scura earlier in the evening (and doing a half decent job).

 

Sorry to hear that. I wasn't involved in any crash, so I based that just on the chat. I saw your "confrontation" and also that 3 wide after the start when one guy didn't move at all and crashed you two. But I also saw "sorry" being typed couple times earlier and later on in other races.

Well I like to experiment with different settings, but I reckon I'd be the only guy on the server if you'd follow that way of setting temps during winter. When I'm in the mood I can take the Escort or GT40 on Nordschleife in ~90% grip, 10C and heavy fog. And I'm having a blast.
But I know that most people want to drive in conditions that are optimal for the car, which is visible online with servers that have 100% grip and 26C are the most popular. Like Henri said last night that the air temp should be higher because BMW's tyres aren't working too good and he don't find it enjoyable.
Just to be clear I'm not "jumping on him", everyone uses AC how he wants and that's OK. It just happened recently and I used it as an example that it's completely opposite to my approach.




What are the plans for tonight? F40 S3 vs Huayra? Or has it been canceled/set to other day already?

 

yeah when i know a car needs high temp id be more inclined to use it. the Merc SLS is one that i know needs it or it just doesnt seem to work. I will add the 235i to the list. i was up for a server restart to sort it out but this wasnt echoed by anyone when suggested so i left it as it was.

its worth running an app that shows tyre temps so you know when we are or arent using tyre blankets. also to be in the habit of checking the weather and track grip when the session changes. i recommend the chat app (it gives you more than 1 visible line of chat) and stats bar plus found here: http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php?threads/mini-apps-v5-1-statsbar-plus-v6-4.1018/

Yes miniapps rock. I'm using the two you mentioned and I can definitely recommend them. Statsbar plus gives all useful information without taking 3/4 of the screen with multiple different apps. And chat is chat.

I am still not convinced. I guess that offline testing will prove it one way or the other, but that lack of pace in the BMW seemed too excessive to me....

 

you could have been driving the Scura at 99-100grip and the 235i at 95-96? thats worth a good few seconds. or your style of driving just doesnt suit the 235i? im not sure but have you seen this http://91.121.155.150:55001/lapstat ii absolutely agree that it seemed the Exige had the advantage but i think it was better than the day before. as suggested, perhaps with higher temp the m235i would have been consistently closer

 

I was doing 2:05s in the Exige Scura at that track grip and temperature. As for my driving style, I was pretty quick (relatively speaking) in the M235i R prior to the 1.4 updates (I have hardly driven it since then), so I don't think that is the problem. I will try to summon up the motivation to do some testing over the weekend

 

if you click your M235i time using the stracker link above you should get a couple of nice little graphs showing where your lap differed to the fastest time in the same car

 

i have it tho but sometimes i dont enable it in general settings and go by hand

im not sure, i think LeDude is sorting it this week. it got to about 7pm this evening then we discussed changing it in the server as it had been a few days so i switched it.

 

Before we changed to Lotus 49 @ Zandvoort it was the same combo as yesterday. I took BMW to see if lap times difference between the two cars will be as big as it is with Chris.

My PB from last night in the Lotus is 2.04.5 with 97.3% grip, laps driven - 37
Today in the BMW I achieved 2.05.9 with 95.6% grip, laps driven - 9

So in my case I think with more laps and higher grip I would get close to my Lotus time.

 

This is why I need to test offline. That lap time above is three seconds quicker than mine in the BMW at a similar level of grip, and that makes no sense to me. I need to check to see if something else was going on last night....

Results of my tests with the BMW M235i R @ Barcelona Moto this morning......

93% grip/16C air temp/21C track temp/10 AM - 2:08.491
95% grip/16C air temp/21C track temp/10 AM - 2:06.953
96% grip/18C air temp/23C track temp/10 AM - 2:05.704

I think it's possible that my high 2:08s on the server the other day may have been at a lower grip level than I thought, although I can't be sure. However, it shows quite a significant difference between 93% and 95% at reasonably low temperatures. The grip from the tyres seemed to improve slightly after two or three laps, but that might be because I can't afford tyre blankets

 

i doubt it. the lowest the grip will go on the server is 95% and the lowest temp setting was high teens (i think 18c) grip is set to start at 96% with randomness set to 1 so theres no way it would have been lower than 95% grip. are you sure you arent just getting better in the car with practice? im not saying thats definitely the case btw. i think you can rule out server grip being lower than that which you used offline though.

good thanks mate! it looks so small though!! the bezel was so big on my old LG it was probably about 60inch in all lol. i want to measure them, this 43 actually looks smaller than my old 42 excluding the bezel. i have 1 issue with the new TV at the moment. it has a standby mode after X hours which is fine but then it has a daydream mode and the longest you can set it to is 1 hour lol... and you cant turn it off :/ i had it pop up mid race last night.

 

I have the same feeling about the 235 now, while when it came out it was one of my favorites.
