I would expect Tandy would be very competitive against Hulk in your proposed race, who wins would be down to who gets it right on the day but neither would get beaten by much. As for the relative merits of drivers in each series look at how long it took Webber to get on the pace in the 919 and a modern lmp1 is much more like a single seater than a GT car. Each series has cars that have their own specific techniques to extracting the best out of the cars and drivers will naturally suit one more than another but the drivers at the top of those classes are all world class.

Looking at the ROC at the weekend, Vettel won but only just in a final against a retired lmp driver, last years winner won when he was a midfield DTM driver after a fine F1 career, the nations cup was won by a couple of touring car drivers this year, one who was an ex World Champ but never made an impression in DTM so the talent is spread across the classes in racing. True, what you say about Webber and the LMP cars is a very good point.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to ROC. It's just a tiny, ultra-low speed "mickey mouse" track. It would be like judging them in an autocross track.

You made some good points though but I still don't think those other series are as cutthroat as F1. A lot of drivers can linger around in those series' a lot more than mediocre (relatively speaking) drivers can usually linger around in F1. There are many drivers in all those GT and TC series that hang around year after year that are never going to come in the top 3 of a championship let alone win one.

I just saw that Chris Harris has been confirmed as working on the new top gear along with Sabine Schmidts and Chris Evans as the host. Funny thing is the only one I never heard of is Chris Evans but seems he is popular in the UK.

And David Coulthard is also supposedly in now, that seems like a great team now, but honestly, I'm not a fan of Chris Evans...

 

To be honest I'm a bit worried about "losing" Chris Harris for some TV show (yes I said it about TG). If anything he deserves his own show.
I hope his vids on YT will still be coming, maybe less often but still.

 

He's not going to get access to the money and sway that top gear brings with it if he goes it alone. Most people don't know who he is, so it would be hard for him to promote a show with only himself in it. He's about to be jettisoned onto the world stage thanks to top gear. If anything I think it could improve his youtube channel (as long as BBC don't embargo him) if he shows us some behind the scenes at top gear, he'll have access to a never ending flow of cars with top gear. He won't have to work nearly as hard at getting people to hand him over any car, for any reason.

 

Evans is a bit of a marmite character but I think he's grown up a lot in the last few years.

He is knowledgeable and passionate about cars, for people that don't know him he's a multi millionaire and buys and sells classics all the time. He's a presenter with energy and can carry off wacky humour, I think the BBC could have done a lot worse. If anything I'm not too sure about Harris, I find him a bit full of himself and irritating...
