Intel core i5-4690k vs intel core i7-4790k

Alright, it's a short 2 lap race with 21 AI at Vallelunga.

You will need to run it on just 1 screen for the comparisons to matter, because I don't have 3.

I used 2 batch of settings: 1) my gameplay settings and 2) maxed out settings.

Let's try first the maxed out settings because it's faster for me to tell you: just max out everything in game, except motion blur. Make sure vsync is off and run @ 1080p.
Preferably would be to use FRAPS the registered version and use the benchmark function of it and set to show MinMaxAvg only.

So the sequence is this:
1. Setup the game settings.
2. Start the replay.
3. Stop the replay so it rewinds at the beginning.
4. Hide apps from screen.]
5. Leave it on Camera TV 1 (default).
6. Press the start benchmark key and play replay.
7. Wait for the replay to finish completely and exit the replay/game. The benchmark stops automatically at the end.

Look into the benchmark folder in FRAPS and tell me the numbers.

I went from a Q9650 3.0ghz to a 4790k 4.4ghz and truthfully cant say i noticed much difference

 

It depends, if you're GPU limited then you probably won't see much difference.

I'm running 1920x1200 @60Hz | AA 4x | AF 16x | TransAA - Multisample (NVCP) | Pre-rendered Frames - 1 (NVCP) | World Detail - Low | Shadows - Low | Smoke Gen - Very Low | Smoke in Mirrors - On | PP Effects - On but all options low or off bar Colour Sat. | Mirror Res - High | HQ Mirror Ref. - On | Ref. Q - Low | RRF - Static.

B.O.G. @Spa, 23AI I get around 87-88 FPS with dip into the 70's when the cars in front smoke their tyres on getaway. I am entirely CPU limited at these settings, dropping graphic settings to minimum and/or dropping resolution to even 800x600 gains me zero FPS. GTX970/i5-3570K@4.3GHz.

Same settings pre FMOD release (RC1.06?) netted me ~115FPS, I used to cap @100FPS in order not to have any drops at all bar the initial tyre smoke drop at start. Now I have to cap ~80FPS to achieve similar 'no drop' performance.

 

Would you please run the test I posted above on your PC?
If I understood correctly you get less fps than me and my system is much worse than yours and I have higher graphics settings, that should not be possible...

 

Not sure if maxed out settings are that useful as I seem to get FPS and GPU usage randomly dropping to half due to the smoke setting.

I know maxed are not useful, they are just a measure tool for me to see how much AC can bog down a system. That's why I have 2 tests one maxed and one with my preferred settings.
Theoretically if I had a beast of a PC I would use those maxed settings, without the motion blur, since I consider it useless and just a gimmick.

That being said here are my benchmark scores:
1. Maxed out settings, like I said above:
Min, Max, Avg: 21, 69, 48

2. My signature settings:
Min, Max, Avg: 66, 143, 95

Hm, this is interesting, but it can't be right. The difference is to small. That GTX 970 alone should give you about 40-50% more fps than my PC...

P.S. When I run my test I close any other programs in my windows so that is just AC open and FRAPS.
