1. Do you need support for Assetto Corsa Competizione? Please use the proper forum below and ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Logs" folder in your c:\users\*youruser*\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved. The "AppData" folder is hidden by default, check "Hidden items" in your Windows view properties. If you report a crash, ALWAYS zip and attach the WHOLE "Crashes" folder in the same directory. Do not post "I have the same issue" in an existing thread with a game crash, always open your own thread. Do not PM developers and staff members for personal troubleshooting and support.
  2. As part of our continuous maintenance and improvements to Assetto Corsa Competizione we will be releasing small updates on a regular basis during the esports season which might not go through the usual announcement process detailing the changes until a later version update where these changes will be listed retrospectively.
  3. If ACC doesn't start with an error or the executable is missing, please add your entire Steam directory to the exceptions in your antivirus software, run a Steam integrity check or reinstall the game altogether. Make sure you add the User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione folder to your antivirus/Defender exceptions and exclude it from any file sharing app (GDrive, OneDrive or Dropbox)! The Corsair iCue software is also known to conflict with Input Device initialization, if the game does not start up and you have such devices, please try disabling the iCue software and try again. [file:unknown] [line: 95] secure crt: invalid error is a sign of antivirus interference, while [Pak chunk signing mismatch on chunk] indicates a corrupted installation that requires game file verification.
  4. When reporting an issue with saved games, please always zip and attach your entire User/Documents/Assetto Corsa Competizione/Savegame folder, along with the logs and the crash folder (when reporting related to a crash).

Brake pressure/sensitivity needed!

Discussion in 'Chit Chat Room' started by MsportDAN, Aug 6, 2015.

  1. I've talked to the engineer of a 2x IMSA USCC championship winning team (to be somewhat vague) a bit about it; if I recall the conversation correctly, generally they'll adjust it so that they can use 100% pressure at the beginning of a hard braking zone (the desired pressure will change based on track conditions, track surface, track type, etc). But it's definitely a feature on race cars that they'll adjust on a fairly regular basis.

  2. Thx mclaren.. so the question would be if we should add this for every car or only for race cars... thoughts?

    BTW.. the code for brake pressure in setups is already there, but we don't use it in our cars. The name of the item is:

    BRAKE_POWER_MULT

    So mod cars can already add this.

  3. I think in general the brake torque the cars are producing is too high (I seem to recall the Huayra producing more than the data I have for current LMP1s - albeit that was a while ago and it may have changed by now). So maybe lowering the torque on pretty much all of the current street cars, and then adding an adjustment to the race cars (and street cars that for whatever reason have it in real life) would work well.

    By the way, I seem to remember something about electronic (automatic) brake bias adjustment either being mentioned to me by someone, or put in a changelog entry. Does it exist in AC, and if so, what's the code for it?

    I would suggest that you look at your telemetry diagram next time you play. With pedals without load cells or very stiff spring it is very hard to not press too much. Many times I have noticed that even I thought I didn't press brake all the way, the diagram shows that actually I did.

    The way I see it I see the brake pressure adjustment as a usability option first and car setup option 2nd. So I'd like to see general option where you can adjust the thing for every single car universally from the main options (like ffb strength). Something like a slider that goes from 0.8 to 1.2. Or from 0.1 to 3.0. After that each car could have its own brake setup option based on what kind of system the car has.

    That being personally I have not needed the brake pressure adjustment. I'd like to offer it as part of setup screen for mod cars but the reason I've chosen not to is because it doesn't work with ai. Or at least didn't work last time I tried it. In short term if ai understood the BRAKE_POWER_MULT it would allow modders at least easy and complete implementation of it.

  6. what do you mean it doesn't work with AI? Are you setting a default value different from 1.0 ?

  7. Yes, it exists.. you can add this section to the brakes.ini file to enable it:

    [EBB]
    FRONT_SHARE_MULTIPLIER=1.1 ; Multiplies the exact value that the EBB is calculating to avoid oversteer

    I have no problem modulating brake pressure with load cell pedals. The issue is that with some cars tires lock up way before on board app shows 100% brake pressure. KTM X-Bow for example.
    After a couple laps, you adjust no new "lock up" limit and use gentler touch.
    It might simulate how the real car behaves, but option to adjust brake pressure for different cars could be very handy for more consistent brake applications.

    Actually the last time I tried it the parameter only accepted full numbers (0, 1, 2 etc..). Does values like 1.1 work?

    Here is how it worked last I tried it:
    http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/i...e-sensitivity-needed.25684/page-6#post-519793
    (I'll go check it again if values with commas work now)

  10. I haven't checked, but if it's like the rev limiter, it's probably a percentage, not a multiplier....

    That's it! Only issue is that it defaults to minimum value everytime though.

    For example this:

    [BRAKE_POWER_MULT]
    SHOW_CLICKS=0
    TAB=GENERIC
    NAME=Brake Power
    MIN=5
    MAX=120
    STEP=1
    POS_X=0.5
    POS_Y=4
    HELP=

    Defaults to 5 so you need to change it everytime you load a car or the car uses the MIN value. Using value like MIN=100 obviously fixes that issue but also removes the option of lowering the brake pressure...

    I think i figured out how come there's an angry cat in the Kunos logo :D
    Glad i managed to spark his masters voice regarding the subject though.

    That's exactly what i'm doing when i play AC. Point being that i feel i should be able to apply close to full brake pressure when braking initially and then gradually decrease brake pressure afterwards. At the moment the way it works in AC even with added brake gamma, is that i come up to a corner and i have to watch out that i don't apply the brake pedal more than halfway or the brakes will lock up immediately.

    Thanks for taking the time to look into this, i'm sure you'll make a lot of us happy by tweaking this area further.

    Of what cars are you talking? I don't usually have problems with locking, but once I had abnormal problems because I didn't calibrate my pedals after connecting the wheel. Which means the brake and throttle may not work progressively the full range, but progressively until half way and on/off switch from 50 to 100%. So then I exited the game, reconnected my wheel and pressed the pedals a couple times, to calibrate their full range. This was on the formula abarth, where I was locking the wheels in every corner; then after the correct calibration it worked normally. For my G27 pedals, which are just a linear spring (I think), I use 2.4 brake gamma. But even so I don't smash the pedal, I apply the brake from the lower point to the higher point, and stop at the threshold before locking (in non-abs cars, and depends on the cars. Some that have weak brakes might not even lock in a straight line).

    I have the impression that it occurs with pretty much every car. Next time i go out i'll check if there is one where i can apply more than half of my pedals range when i start to brake but i doubt it. I usually pump the pedal a couple of times before starting a session, so they ought to be calibrated. It doesn't make driving impossible though, it's just a bit annoying that i have to watch out with applying the brakes all the time.

    Don't know about race cars but in a real road car ABS or no ABS if you apply the full pressure you will lock your tires. In ABS models ABS will Kick in.
    Every car I have driven behaves that way.

    But I agree that in AC it should lock when the pedal is further down, maybe 85 or 90%.
    I don't use the pedal meter but for GT2 it seems to be locking the tires at 50% on G27 pedals.
    This simple shift from 50 to 90% should solve it.

  16. Just for a reference, this is a lap on the XBow that you are signaling as "problematic".

    20160329213426_1.jpg

    I am not a great driver but you can see the typical brake is in the 60%-70% with peaks of 85% and no lock up. And that's the brake pedal AFTER the gamma.. so the hardware pedal under my foot was over 85%.

    @Lord Kunos which kind of pedals do you use? Maybe it's more of a problem on lower end pedals like mine, and the higher end load cell pedals allow for better dosage and more initial pressure to be applied?

    I don't think it is. I have CSR Elites with load cell and my brakes lock up all the time in AC, some cars more than others. I have to be very careful not to give more than about 50% pedal to avoid locking up.
